John Mozingo Will
31 Aug 1820
In the name of God amen. I John Mozingo of Bichmond County end State of
Yirginia being perfectly sound in mind but in a low state of health do make
this my last will and Testament this thirty first day of August in the gear of
our lord Eighteen hundred and Twenty. In the following manner
Ist I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elinor Mozingo one third part of my
Estate for her use and benefit during her natural life without waste and after
t~e decease of her it is my wish and desire that it shall be equally devided
between my children Thomas, Pierce, Christopher Hannah Hozingo and my Grand Children the Heirs of my daughter Nancy Thomas; Daniel, Ellen, John, and William Thomas.
2nd I give and bequeath to my son Pierce Mozingo Twenty Dollars to purchase
him a Horse and it is my wish and desire that he shall have a cow from my Estate.
3rd I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Mozingo one cow from my Estate for
him to have and to hold as his.
4th I give and bequeath to my son Christopher Mozingo Twenty Dollars to
purchase him a horse and I wish him to have one cow from my Estate, it also is
my wish and desire that he shall have one half dozen pewter Plates, and one
pewter Dish.
5th I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Mozingo one cow and half dozen
pewter places to be taken from my Estate, end Ten Dollars to be paid her.
6th I give and bequeath to Susan Brown formerly the wife of my son John
Mozingo deceased Twenty five cents to be paid out of my Estate for her to have
and to hold as hers forever; and it is my wish and desire that she shell not
inherit more, or any part of my Estate whatsoever.
7eh I give and bequeath to Coty Pecure and Betcy Berrott six dollars a peace
to be paid out of my Estate for the. to have and to hold.
Bth It is my wish and desire that the ballance of my Estate be all real and
personal after paying my just debts shall be equally devided between my
Children; Thomas, Pierce, Christopher, Hannah Hozingo and the children of my
daughter Nancy Thomas; Daniel, Ellen, John, and William Thomas, the children of William Thomas.
9th It is my wish and desire that Luis my negro man Slave shall be sold, and
out of the money arising frgm the sale of said Slave, my just debts shall be
paid, and the legises which I have left to my different children, and the
ballance of the money after paying said claims, to be equally devided between
my heirs; Thomas, Pierce, Christopher end Hannah Mozingo and the children of my daughter Nency Thomas: Daniel Ellen, John end William.
10th and lastly it is my wish and desire to appoint my friend Capt. Joseph
Belfield and my son Pierce Mozingo to act as my Executors and to act and
preform and take charge of all of my worldly affars. As witness my hand and
seale this date and gear above writen.

He gave twenty-five cents to Susan BROWN �formerly the wife of my son John MOZINGO decd.� He also gave legacies to Caty PEARCE and Betsy BARRETT. Executors were �friend� Capt. Joseph BELFIELD and son Pierce. Witnesses were Matthew V., Levi, and Thomas YEATMAN. The will was probated on 2 October 1820 (Will Book 9, pp. 671-673).
