... I am a direct descendant of Jane MOZINGO (ca. 1826-1894) who married
Cornelius N.B. RICE (1824-1897) in Washington, DC on 03 Feb 1846/184
course, I have also seen the 1850 census entry, showing the mysterious "E.
MAZINGO", age 50, that I presume is the mother of both Jane (Mozingo) RICE,
and the 12-year-old "S. MAZINGO". S would have been Samuel Gideon MOZINGO, a
reputed younger brother of Jane MOZINGO (and the only other known sibling of
Jane).
... Newton MOZINGO is a good candidate [as the father], as his children are in the correct
age/gender brackets in both census years, and he was in Westmoreland Co., VA
where Jane was born. Also, Jane (Mozingo) RICE named one of her children
Gideon Newton RICE. Finally, a Newton MOZINGO married an Elizabeth SMITH in
Westmoreland Co., VA in 1821 - and an E. MOZINGO (female, age 50) was living
with Jane RICE and husband Cornelius RICE in 1850 in Washington, D.C. Newton
MOZINGO cannot be located this census year, and is presumed to be deceased
between 1840-1850.
(Of the MOZINGO marriages in Westmoreland Co. before 1824, no other MOZINGO
males married a female with E. as the first letter of her first name.) ... Dawn Bingaman
