April 1st

(No April fools jokes, i promise).

Thom is to collaborate with Bjork on a song for the new Lars von Trier film 'Dancer in the Dark'.   The song will appear on the soundtrack, which should be released sometime in September.

Tickets for the summer European tour are selling out fast.   The Paris gig has already sold out, and the others are not far behind.  So buy your tickets while you still can.

March 24th

Radiohead had, yet another, unannounced live webcast (which, like most of the world, i missed.  if you care).  more of the same stuff, deejaying by thom and jonny.  but what you really care about is that radiohead performed a new song, possibly titled "Wicked Child" according to the babble on the official messageboard.  There is the possibility that the band performed more than just this, but recordings of it have not shown up yet (due to the ridiculously poor bandwidth and connections.  don't you love realplayer?).   check out "wicked child" at the lovely Perfect Song Facsimile.

March 22nd

Where's the new album?

Just some news about the new album... the album is almost done, except for mostly vocals and mixing, and it should be ready for a September/October release date.  From the 30+ songs the band has recorded, a shortlist of 16 has been drawn up:

the 8.5 minute long Cuttooth, Egyptian Song, Dollars and Cents, Everyone (The National Anthem), Follow Me Around, How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found, I Will, Keep the Wolf From the Door, Kinetic, Knives Out, Lost at Sea (In Limbo), Morning Bell, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Optimistic, True Love Waits, You And Whose Army.  (info from radiohead announce mailing list)

Other songs not listed here will probably not be on the album.  A confirmed non-appearance for album 4 is Big Ideas (don't get any), because according to Thom, "its just we have not done it recently and the one we did in meeting people just didnt end up anywhere so.."

From Radiohead announce:

The first confirmed news on LP number four is coming in...

The band have set themselves a deadline to finish recording LP four by the end of March. This means the release date will be around September, hopefully with a single preceeding it.

From over 30 songs that they are working on, the band have got a shortlist of 16. These include : the 8.5 minute long Cuttooth, Egyptian Song, Dollars and Cents, Everyone (The National Anthem), Follow Me Around, How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found, I Will, Keep the Wolf From the Door, Kinetic, Knives Out, Lost at Sea (In Limbo), Morning Bell, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Optimistic, True Love Waits, You And Whose Army

It will not be a double album and the tracklisting is not confirmed, but the band will be, over the coming weeks, deciding on which tracks to use and trying to reduce it down further from 16 songs.

Look for an important announcement from the band to appear on the official site at http://www.radiohead.com/dont.html on Monday March 6th.

Also, don't forget to check out Ed's diary, of course, which is always updated on a regular basis, at http://www.radiohead.com/us.html

February 13th 2000

To bring this section back up to date (8 months!):

Radiohead are currently recording their follow up album to OK Computer.  There is no official release date, but the album is expected to appear sometime late this year.

The official radiohead website has been updated, and this time there's lots of interesting stuff to see for the casual fan.   Ed has been keeping an online diary detailing the events of the recording sessions.   A highly enjoyable read, and updated regularly too.  There is also the official radiohead messageboard, where fans can interact with various members of radiohead and their inner circle, which can be useful/fun.  Go: http://www.radiohead.com/

Radiohead will not be playing at Glastonbury this year.

Radiohead have had two webcasts in which they DJ'd, playing some obscure music that most people have never heard of, and, more importantly, jamming and previewing new material.  Three new songs have been heard: Knives Out, Everything In Its Right Place, and a impromptu jam called There There.   These can all be heard at the lovely Perfect Song Facsimile.

June 20th

Radiohead official site finally updated!   And hohum, It's even more irrelevant than before!  thanks stanley... click to see-> .

Thom and Jonny played at Tibet99.  Set list: New Song, Street Spirit, Wear it Proudly (Elvis Costello cover), Lucky, Karma Police, Exit Music.  Exit Music was considered by those who were there to be the highlight.  No soundfiles of the new song (as yet untitled) have emerged yet, but i'm sure they will soon.  Not here though, because i don't have it.  Honest.  Exit Music can be viewed by those who have Microsoft's Media Player here.   If you don't have it, find it.  I don't know where to tho.  Probably on that microsoft site.  Yes.

Thom took part in an online chat on MSN for the Jubilee 2000 campaign.  Transcript can be read here, which is from this website here.

For those interested, Stanley Donwood has contributed artwork for a new pressing of the classic French novel Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain Fournier on Pengiun books.  Click here to see the cover and here to see the back.

Congratulations to Billy Anderson who won the competition.   Another one will come sometime next month.  The next one has an even worse prize, i promise.

June 4th

For all those looking for the 'updated' radiohead site, i will just say "hah." and again.  "hah.   HAH!"  when will it really be open?  who knows?  who cares.   stanley donwood's stupid junk.  (j/k.  of course.)

According to the NME website, radiohead have written the complete soundtrack score to a new 4 part BBC drama, an adaptation the novel  Eureka Street: A Novel Of Ireland Like No Other by Robert McLiam Wilson.  "It's a great book, I was completely blown away by it" says Ed.   The drama will be aired in September in the UK.  No word on a soundtrack release.  Go to NME.com for more info.

May 21st

Hello.  Meeting People is Easy is finally released in the US, so happy Americans!  It's also available in that lovely new DVD format, should any of you want it.  Having trouble finding it?  CDNOW is selling it both in DVD and VHS formats.  Go here to look/buy.

April 25th

thanks to all those who voted for this site.  i have a nice surprise coming soon.  well actually it's not.  a couple of competitions to win some crappy radiohead stuff.  but at least it will be YOUR crappy radiohead stuff, eh?  competition will appear when i figure out a question, or whatever.

radiohead have been confirmed as beginning to record the follow up to ok computer somewhere in gloucestershire.  once again, nigel godrich will be producing the album with them.  no release date has been set, but don't expect the album out until sometime next year.

April 21st

Thom is set to perform a solo set at this year's Tibetan Freedom Festival in Amsterdam on June 13th.  More information can be found at http://www.tibet99.com

March 25th

According to radiohead-announce, Stanley Donwood (radiohead art guy) has completed work on the new official radiohead website, and it will be uploaded sometime next week.   Completely redesigned.  Probably nothing radiohead-ish at all, but who knows?   watch out for it www.radiohead.co.uk or www.radiohead.com
note: page release delayed indefinitely again.  when it finally is, info will be posted here.

March 16th

Ignore previous information: The US release of the Meeting People Is Easy video is set for May 4th.  Preceding that, it will be be premiered on March 20th (this Saturday) at the South By Southwest music industry conference in Austin, Texas, and will subsequently be shown at campuses in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago.  Meeting People Is Easy will also be released in the DVD format (same release date as video), making it the first such release by Capitol.  More information can be found at sonicnet.

February 19th

radiohead struggle to record big boots - MPIE Jonny has contributed harmonica to some of the songs that will appear on Pavement's upcoming new l.p.  The album is being produced by Nigel Godrich.

Radiohead right now are in Paris starting on their follow-up to OK Computer.  No release date has been set, but the album is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

The US release of Meeting People Is Easy has been pushed forward to April 20th.

January 18th

Radiohead have been nominated for a Brit Award in the 'Best Video' catagory for the Grant Gee directed 'No Surprises'.   However, i doubt they'll win, as not are they up against more popular artists (Robbie Williams, All Saints), they're also up against superior videos too (Massive Attack's Teardrop).

The complete nominees for Best Video are:

All Saints - Under The Bridge
Mel B & Missy Elliot - I Want You Back
Cornershop - Brimful of Asha
Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground
Massive Attack - Teardrop
George Michael - Outside
Placebo - Pure Morning
Radiohead - No Surprises
Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You
Robbie Williams - Millennium

January 7th

Happy new year!

Radiohead have been nominated for Grammy in the 'Best Alternative Live performance' Category.  For what? For some b-sides. Nominees are

1. Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty
2. Tori Amos - From the Choirgirl Hotel
3. Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
4. PJ Harvey - Is This Desire
5. Radiohead - Airbag/How Am I Driving? EP

Personally, my money is on the Beastie Boys.

December 11th

Radiohead played their only concert of the year yesterday in Paris at the Amnesty International Concert, celebrating the 50th aniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  The band played a 10 song set, disappointingly not airing any new songs.  However, they were very well received, and played longer than anyone else.

Bits of Radiohead playing live during a December 1992 gig at the Oxford Jericho Tavern appear on a single by SPU.N.K.L.E All Stars 'Where Will You Be This Christmas?' .  Audible during the song is inbetween song banter from Thom, plus samples of the band playing Glenn Campbell's 'Rhinestone Cowboy', and the Beatle's 'Money'.  Released on the Oxford 'Shifty Disco' label.

Thom is contributing to an experimental, hip-hop flavoured album being released under the rather unfortunate moniker 'The Handsome Boy Modelling School,' and also includes contributions from Alec Empire, Mike D, Miho Hatori and DJ Shadow.   Produced by Dan Nakamura and Prince Paul, the album is expected to be released April on the Tommy Boy label.

Those who were clever enough to join the REM fanclub, (with psychic hindsight, if not an REM fan), will recieve a nice surprise for their yearly christmas single... instead of the usual 45RPM record, the single this year takes the form of a video, which features two professionally shot clips from this year's Tibetan concert: Michael Stipe singing Lucky with Radiohead, and Thom joining REM during E-bow the Letter.   Yum.  If you're not on the fanclub*, don't bother joining now, you wont get the video, you'll get next year's single instead, which will probably be decidedly less Radiohead-ish.

*If you actually do want to join, send US$10 if in the US, or US$12 if outside the US to the PO Box address listed inside most REM albums.  don't forget your address either.

November 14th

w.a.s.t.e. 16 should be appearing in mailboxes soon.  a little different this time around, written by mel.  also nice new merchandise, including a yum radiohead bag.  also is an order form for the upcoming Meeting People Is Easy, making life easier for those who may have problems finding it.  Also says to expect changes at www.radiohead.co.uk very soon.  Not on the w.a.s.t.e. mailing list?  send your land address to stuff@wasteproducts.demon.co.uk and then sit back and wait.

A play has been released in LA which is based around Radiohead lyrics.  Titled 'The Untitled Radiohead Project' and directed by Dean Testerman, the story follows main character Thom (not Yorke), as he tries to be abducted by aliens.  the dialogue is completely written using lyrics from all three albums, b-sides, and even unreleased tracks, as well as liner notes.  novel?  yes.   waste of time?  maybe.  good?  maybe too.  for more information, go here.

November 1st

Meeting People Is Easy, the radiohead tour film/documentary will be released in the UK on November 30th.  US release date is expected to be January 26th next year.

And for those who are patiently/impatiently waiting for radiohead to release some new material (ie, a new album), the band are expected to start work in the studio early next year.  which probably means don't expect a new album until late 1999/early-mid 2000.

October 2nd

Radiohead are comfirmed to play at the Amnesty International support concert in Paris, France on December 10th.  Also confirmed playing are Asian Dub Foundation, Alanis Morrissette,  Kassav', Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N'dour.  The concert coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights.  Tickets go on sale on sale Wednesday 7th October.
Tickets are available from : Bercy Stadium Box Office, Tel: +33 1 44 684468
UK concert tickets available from : International Concert Travel : 01733 571616

Radiohead: "The Amnesty International human rights concert in Paris will be our only European appearance this year. We hope that this is an effective way to support AI in their positive work to promote the human rights enshrined in the UDHR. Without the work of organisations like AI, the UDHR would be mere rhetoric. We hope that future anniversaries will mark the full international implementation of the UDHR and a truly effective UN General Assembly which can make all of the Declaration's articles a reality."

September 6th

According to RHA, Radiohead will be working on a b-sides album this fall, for possible release early next year.  It may also include some material that hasn't been on any album or single.  For those of you who spent loads of money on singles and eps to complete your b-sides collection, i wouldn't be pissed off about the release; b-sides album are usually inconclusive, and always leave several b-sides off the album (re: Suede's Sci-Fi Lullabies).

It is rumoured that Jonny will play guest keyboards on Bernard Butler's second album.

July 17th

From the NME:
The UNKLE album, 'Psyence Fiction', featuring contributions from Richard Ashcroft, Thom Yorke, DJ Shadow and the Beastie Boys' Mike D, has finally been given an August 24 release date by Mo'Wax. (note:  UK release date.  Japan release: 17 August, USA release: 28 September.)

The album was put together by DJ Shadow and Mo'Wax boss James Lavelle (pictured) over the last three years with artists recording tracks for it all over the world. Richard Ashcroft and Thom Yorke recorded their contributions before the successes of their 'Urban Hymns' and 'OK Computer' albums. The inspiration for Unkle came when Lavelle collaborated with Major Force's Tim Goldsworthy and Kudo on their 'The Time Has Come' EP.

Lavelle said: "I've always wanted to bring together the different types of music that I've grown up on, to intertwine
them to create something that people my age can get into."  The Richard Ashcroft song is called 'Lonely Soul'. The Thom Yorke/DJ Shadow song, which was recorded in San Francisco, is called 'Rabbit In Your Headlights'.

June 15th

stipe with RH at TFC 98 After the freak tragedy of the first day of the Tibetan Freedom Concert, Radiohead, (and R.E.M.), fans were in for a treat at the Sunday show.  During the R.E.M. set, (4:36 pm), as well as debuting some new material, Thom Yorke joined in with R.E.M. to sing Be Mine and backing on Ebow The Letter (doing Patty Smith's part)!  The only word that comes to mind after hearing these two songs is 'gorgeous'.  Another treat was during Radiohead's own set, (1:45pm), Michael Stipe came on to sing Lucky with Radiohead!  wow!  Definitely a bootleggers dream :P
also, for all the poor sods who only bought a oneday ticket to see radiohead on saturday, there was a secret gig for a lucky 800 people who brought their ticket stubs to
Washington's 9:30 club.  Michael Stipe turned up to join in Lucky too!   Overall, there were only gains for Radiohead fans.  it was a good weekend.   from now, radiohead should be taking a break, and getting ready to record their 4th l.p.  expect news to be rather dead now.

June 5th

Hurrah!  uselesshead has reached the big 100,000 hit count! (and without cheating.  well... okay, i may have visited my site 500 times... so shoot me)
Thanks to all who have visited uselesshead, i love all of you.  you've given me the strength to carry on, etc etc etc...

lots of news from the NME about the radiohead documentary "Meeting People is Easy"... i would reword it, but for once, the nme actually wrote it so well it doesn't really need changing :P

********
...the documentary was filmed over the past year, with 'No Surprises' video director Grant Gee tracking Radiohead as they toured the world in support of 'OK Computer'. No release date for the movie has been set yet.
Ed: "It's coming on really well. We went down last week and saw some of the rushes. Grant's got about eight hours' worth of stuff and it's got to be condensed, obviously. It's very honest, but it's not a rockumentary, that's the last thing we wanted it to be because that would be so Spinal Tap."
Ed said the main thrust of the film was to convey the strange life of a rock group on the road, so they gave the director free rein. "I mean, you make a record within the confines of the five of you, and whoever else, then after that, you go out and tour this record and that's when it gets bizarre, then it's the rock'n'roll circus thing. It's not normality and it's not real. It's his slant on that and I think it's going to be quiteinteresting."
Ed scotched widespread stories there would be a new Radiohead album before the end of this year, although he admitted that they have been recording in the back of the tourbus while they toured the last album.
Ed: "We demoed stuff and things like that. But basically, I think an album has to be recorded over a certain period of time. So we'll start work on it properly in November."

May 31st

Nothing really exciting has been happening in the radiohead world, we can all assume they're sitting at home reading books...

Anyway, Radiohead won two Ivor Novello Songwriting Awards or smth...

okay, that's all.

May 1st.

Ow.. sorry for not updating this for along time.. (i always seem to be apologising nowadays...)

The US tour finished, and was a big success.  Radiohead do not plan to do any other tours or gigs for the rest of the year, with the exception of the Tibetan Freedom Concert at Washington DC this summer.

Big Boots will not appear on the Avengers soundtrack as previously planned.  the band tried to record the song, but apparently were unsuccessful at recording it.  they will try to record it again later.  oh well...

Thom and Jonny will still appear on the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack project.  They appear in a band 'The Venus in Furs', along with Bernard Butler, Andy MacKay of Roxy Music, Clune, and Paul Kimble. They will be covering 2HB, Sebastian, Ladytron, Baby's On Fire, Bitter-Sweet, Gimme Danger and Tumbling Down.  Thom apparently sings on these tracks, so it should be interesting.
The recordings went very well, even Bernard Butler (notorious for being hard to work with) said he enjoyed working with thom and jonny!!!

Seven Television Commercials video 'should' be out on May 4th in the UK, and on May 11th in Canada and the USA.  If you order it from http://www.action-records.co.uk/ now, you stand to win some radiohead artwork!

Radiohead are set to collaborate with Massive Attack this summer.  should be interesting if it goes through...

go to the sounds page to listen to a realaudio of How To Disappear, that new song thing.
