This is not a deathmatch. Ha, you really think I'm gonna put Britney up against 4 girls? Um, no. I like to be somewhat fair in the deathmatches that I write. This is just a poll I'm taking. I wanna see who you people think is better. This page is divided into 5 sections:

Bio

Britney is originally from Kentwood, Louisiana. She has at least one brother, and some pictures of her and him in Rolling Stone lost her a lot of fans. I don't know if she has any other siblings, because it wasn't mentioned on the official site, and I wasn't interested in researching the subject.

Her career started when she was 8 and tried out for the Mickey Mouse Club, but didn't get on because she was too young. However, because one of the producers thought she was talented, she was set up with an agent. (For crying out loud, she was only 8! Couldn't they let her live her life?) She learned about theater arts, and was in a few plays too. Once she was old enough, she tried out for the MMC again, and made it. I think it's kind of ironic that Britney's career started with Disney, and she turned into the most questionable role model for childern. I'm gonna be blunt about the rest: she started singing, got signed, and I made a hate page about her. She's got two albums: Baby, One More Time, and the recent release, Opps!...I Did it Again. The point is that she became successful because other people helped her out. It was other people who taught her about the entertainmet industry, other people who transformed her into a performer, and other people who promoted her. She even sings other people's songs. She's a manufactured piece of...

Britney on being a singer-"I want to be an artist that everyone can relate to, that's young, happy and fun." Here, she is infering that everyone is young, happy, and fun. Well, that's not entirely true. Her target audience is young, so I'll leave that alone, but not all young people are happy and fun. Just like everyone else, young people have problems that upset them, and they need to work stuff out. Britney's songs do nothing to help people, so I think she is a bad role model.

Britney on her education-"I need a lot of help in geometry and Spanish!" Here, she is admitting that she ain't all that bright. Big surprise. Especially in math.

Britney on having a screwed-up childhood-"I love performing more than anything and having people hear my music. I know I've had to give some stuff up to do this, but I don't miss high school. When I was home two years ago, every weekend we'd go out and do the same thing. It's wonderful as long as you love what you're doing, but I'd rather be doing this!" She needs to shut up about not liking school. She had it a lot better than a lot of people her age did. What a stuck up little brat!

Some of Britney's favorite singers: Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston

Things Britney likes-"She loves colors that pop and shopping till you drop, romance novels and idyllic days at the beach."-britney.com If this is true, then Britney must be one dumb twit. If she really likes "colors that pop", that would explain her horrid choice in clothes. I won't attack her shopping habit, because I like shopping too, but I'll say this about romance novels: in a recent study, about 70% of the people who read romance novels had no college education. Oh yeah, and one more thing: I hate the beach!

Kittie consists of 4 members: Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar), her sister Mercedes Lander (drums), Fallon Bowman (guitar, vocals), and Talena Atfield (bass). They are from Ontario, Canada, and the band started when Mercedes and Fallon started playing cover songs with Morgan.

I personally think they are better role models than Britney Spears. I know you think I'm just saying that because I like their music, but I'm not. Look at it from my point of view: You have Britney Spears, a scantily clad teen star who sings degrading songs about needing men and being dependant on men. She teaches girls that they will be okay as long as they have a guy, and they will be nothing if they don't. Then you have Kittie, four very stong young women, who speak of issues other than relationships. They prove that women can be successful in the music business without going to the boring old subject of guys. It's not like Morgan got dumped by her boyfriend and decided to play loud metal to spite him.

In case I'm sending the wrong message, let me clear this up. I don't hate guys; in fact I really like them, it's just that I can survive without them. I'm not going to kill myself over a guy, because that is a sign of weakness. I am not a weak person.

Now back to Kittie. I really like the bio on their CD thingy. If you have the CD, you know what I'm talking about. If not, buy it or go to their official site. It's one of the reasons I picked Kittie to compare to Britney Spears. Go ahead, read it:

Refreshing facts about Kittie: None of them were Mousketeers, they don't dance down the halls of their high school half-naked, and they're not about to buy into the American dream of record sales through plastic surgery.

"I'm not up there singing, 'Hit me baby, one more time!' We're a lot more mature than that," states frontwoman Morgan. Instead, the Canadian teen quartet presents its music with the same brutal truth that clouds their reality. Sonically, it's harsh. But so is the world they live in, and Kittie don't see a need for sugarcoating.

"If people are expecting The Spice Girls, they're not going to get it...People need to get used to everyday occurrence, that way they don't go and kill themselves-or other people-over things like losing a boyfriend or girlfriend," adds drummer Mercedes, Morgan's sister, and half of the band's bludgeoning bottom end with bassist Talena. Accompanying Morgan on guitar is Fallon, and though the four girls are still toiling through high school, they have a better grasp on their environment than most adults.

"Being the way people are, they'll look at songs like 'Spit,' 'Suck,' and 'Choke' and perceive them to be about promiscuity and guys, but you have to dig deeper than that and actually look into the lyrics to see where we're coming from," details Morgan. "Like the song 'Do You Think I'm a Whore?'-That's about the way that I perceive myself and the way other people tend to perceive me. There are times that I really don't think that people get what we're doing and understand where we're coming from. We're girls, playing in a guys business..."

"We're intense, and a lot of people just don't expect it," continues Mercedes. "That's why 'Spit' is my favorite song in the world-People expect us to suck, then we get on stage and blow them away. One minute they're just standing there, then their mouths drop open and their dicks feel small."

"All those people who judge us without hearing us? That's enough to make me spit," says Morgan of the song's title, pleased that Kittie have the chance to prove cynics wrong.

"A lot of guys don't want a bunch of little girls to get in the way of their music," laughs Fallon, who penned "Choke" as an emotional response to betrayal. "That song's about someone telling you that they love you so much, and they put you up on a pedestal and make you feel great, then they turn around and say 'screw you.'" Musically, "Choke" constricts as tightly as its subject matter, pounding from death metal brutality into a down tuned stomp that bites of sarcasm and smacks with scorn. "Brackish" opts for a more frantic pace, a techno backbeat and riveting guitars playing backdrop to a spoken word delivery that unravels into passionate vocal blasts.

It's that passion that sets Kittie apart from their more seasoned peers. Combining insights that are untempered by conventional political correctness, a blunt delivery, and lyrics that delve deeper than their titles might suggest, Kittie transcend the commercial ease of disposable teen angst and easily-packageable pop melodies.

Take "Paperdoll"-One of the album's least suggestive titles, the track offers one of the band's most palatable messages. Says Morgan, "We want to destroy the idea that a lot of men see women as blowup dolls. We want to break that, because we're better than that."

Not bad for a band that was conceived when Mercedes and Fallon met in a gymnastics class and began playing Nirvana and Silverchair covers with Morgan. Since then, Mercedes says she's grown "about seven inches," Fallon no longer aspires to be the next Mariah Carey-"I found cool music," she says-and they've graduated from the youthful mentality of, "Wow, let's play together!" to refining an image of their own and turning heads with a look inspired by equal parts glam, goth and metal.

"We just got sick of looking like everybody else-We didn't want to look grubby, and we didn't want to conform. We wanted to do something special," says Fallon. The results, according to Morgan, fall somewhere within the realm of "glam-goth, metal-glitter. We strive to do our own thing and be the pavers of new roads. It's all just completely natural, we don't really try to sound like anything, it just happens... This is just what's normal for us."

And for that, we have to be thankful. Imagine a world where Britney Spears was the norm?

"Hey, we didn't say anything bad about her!" clarifies Mercedes-"We didn't slag her, and we respect her... We just don't want to be her!" Morgan agrees: "Comparing us to her is like comparing black to white... We'll just stick to the metal!"

Music

Now, here's the obvious part. The music, duh. First of all, Kittie writes their own music and Britney doesn't. Second, Kittie plays their own music, and Britney doesn't. Last, Kittie makes good music and Britney doesn't. Okay, that last one wasn't fact, it was my own opinion, but the others were facts. You can decide whether or not you think Kittie makes good music, but unfortunately, not on this page.

Looks

I know that someone's appearance isn't important and doesn't effect the music they make, but I have to mention this because Britney Spears has made most of her success off her looks. Well, I'm not jealous of her appearance, but I will tell you who I am jealous of: Talena from Kittie. I wouldn't mind looking like her. A lot of guys on Kittie message boards think she's hot, but I'll let the male Britney fans be the judge of that:

Talena Atfield Britney Spears

I also think Kittie has better taste in fasion than Britney, but that's just my opinion.

Now it's time to vote!

Okay, you've seen and read about both, and hopefully you've heard songs by both. I'm sorry, I don't know how to link sound files right. Well, you probably heard songs by both, so it probably doesn't matter.
