John Giddings was a commoner in 1678; a lieutenant of the militia; and a deputy to the General Court in 1653, 1654, and 1655. Commonage was granted to John Giddings in 1667. An inventory was taken of his estate is dated 20 FEB 1690. His estate was distributed on 29 MAR 1692.
Some sources list John Giddings's birth place as St. Abbans, Hartfordshire, England, although there is clearly a record of his father, George Giddings, coming to America on the ship "Planter," sailing from London on 2 APR 1635 and arriving in Boston 7 JUN 1635 (i.e., four years before the approximate birth of John).
