Reading Festival 2003:
Sunday
24 August

Time for some hardcore music appreciation. We did ourselves proud today. Although sadly didn’t see neither Kinesis, The Applicators nor Biffy Clyro due to an early morning contact lens crisis. But luckily we got ourselves together for Serafin who were really good and played loads of songs from their new album ‘No Push Collide’. They definitely started off the day in true style.

We had decided to leave on Sunday night because people kept coming up and shaking our tent really hard in the middle of the night and it got scary. So after packing our stuff away we went and sat in the hOOchy*mobile to whittle away the hours, finish off our alcohol and pringles and watch some girl crying and yelling at her boyfriend. (It was better than Eastenders). Then, we actually watched a whole 6, thats SIX (count them), bands in a row. We were jolly pleased with oursleves. First was Hell Is For Heroes who were loud. We couldn't see them, we just heard them, actually we only heard one song. It was good. They were loud. Then it was off to the Carling Tent for Longview. Everyone loves Longview. No one knows why. They're hyponically dull and as exciting as watching nail varnish dry. But they were somehow good.

Next it was back over the Radio One tent for Hot Hot Heat, who should really change their name to Luke Luke Warm. Unfortunately they have suffered from NME's obsessive over-hyping. Without having previously been made to feel they were the only band on the planet worth listening to, we may have thought more of them. During HHH, we met a drunk American man from Chicago who kept stroking us. Then obviously not understanding why we didn't instantly rip all his clothes off, he asked if we were retards and told us we looked nicer from a distance. God bless America. Being a little freaked out we decided to try some of the local cuisine but the chicken burgers should really come with a health warning. They appered to have been cooked at last years festival. yum yum

After hunting out a good standing spot ready for Grandaddy we waited to be impressed and for once we actually were. They were fabulous, and have such pretty songs. We enjoyed them so much we actually watched the whole of the performance before trotting off to get a nice cup of tea (rock'n'roll) to drink whilst watching the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. We were quite excited about the Yeah Yeah Yeah's as we had heard they are fantastic band to watch live. We had a good standing spot but lost it cos the fit guy we were following (NOT stalking, just coincidently following), kept moving to different spots. But as it turns out Karen O spent more time laying on the friggin floor than standing on her own two feet, so we wouldn't have been able to see that much wherever we were. They Yeah Yeah Yeah's were surprisingly disapointing. They didn't sound that good and we struggled to see what was supposed to be so great about them live.

After watching 5 bands in a row we had finally got into the swing of things, which was typical as there were only the headliners left to see. We didn't much fancy Metallica or The Music, so went to watch British Sea Power. Random guy from 80's Matchbox keeps telling us to watch them cos they're fantastic...so we did, and they were. They had much foliage on the stage and the crowd also had much foliage about themselves. It was a bit like watching a band while staring in The Blair Witch...(except without the whole being scared shitless part). Anyway...BSP were amazing. Very unique, very entertaining and just absolutely fantastic. If you ever get the chance to see them, do it!
