The latest single from Melbourne band Invertigo, playing at SJ’s on Beaumont this Wednesday, is called Chances Are.

But the pop-rockers are taking few chances with their debut album, Forum, which will hit retail shelves in April.

Like their Newcastle debut, which has been postponed twice, the release date for the long-player has been put back more than once. Not without good reason, though.

The Invertigo band members and manager Ralph Carr release that first impressions count for plenty in this highly disposable industry.

And Carr, Tina Arena’s ex-husband, knows better than most what it takes to make it in music: good timing, good songs, good people, good luck and good business.

Invertigo certainly has the songs, with the lead single Desensitised spending three months in the ARIA charts and Chances Are also getting the royal radio treatment.

As far as personnel goes, the Invertigo ranks include two musicians who have already been there and done that in Pseudo Echo, rhythm brothers Vince (drums) and James Leigh (bass/keyboards).

The other members are vocalist Christian Argenti and another Leigh sibling in guitarist *Jerry.

Carr hooked them up with producer Charles Fisher, who has twiddled the knobs for world-beating Brisbane duo Savage Garden.

‘As a debut act we have been very privileged to be surrounded by so much talent,’ Argenti acknowledges.

As for good luck, Carr’s business acumen should take care of that.
