(Left to Right) James Leigh, Gerry Leigh, Hugh Wilson and Vince Leigh

Vertigo started out in 1997 with the three brothers Vince, James and Gerry Leigh. After all having previous experiences apart they decided to join together and form. But there was one thing that was missing and that was a lead singer...they did many auditions and came across Hugh Wilson.

Hugh was originally on Starsearch - Starsearch is like a talent show where people get out and do there stuff and if they win they get recording time etc and known to the public. The Leigh Brothers liked what they saw and got him...

They were signed to BMG Records and churned out singles 'Forever Lately' and 'Human Need (Stay With Me)' both doing reasonably well but not making a huge impact on Australian music. They preformed on many TV shows including Hey Hey It's Saturday, Ground Zero and 11am.

Another single 'Satellite Rain' was actually due out soon after but troubles formed in the band - Hugh wasn't fitting in with the brothers musically or personally - the decision was made and Hugh left the group leaving another gap in the brothers band. After much soul searching and feeling of hopelessness the band got back on the saddle in search of another singer - this time things were kept quiet about this 'new project' and things started to flow and after putting up a advertisement they got 100 auditions.

After months and months of slogging through they found Christian Argenti and with the same kinda influences, musical diversity and easy-going personality - he was the man for the job. Vertigo then lost their record deal with BMG and things were pretty much at a low - so to find hope they wrote the song 'Chances Are', accidentally got heard by Atlantic Record executives and they were signed before a album was in the works or a deal was signed in Australia...things started to happen again for the boys!
