It began in 6th grade...when I was persuaded by my teacher, Becky Cherry, to audition for the school play, the Wizard of Oz.
At that point in my life I had done some Philippine folk dancing, some karaoke at home, but I had never really performed in front of an audience.
I auditioned...and landed the lead part, Dorothy. That was where it all started, sitting under a spotlight, singing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.'
I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life...
Since that day, I have truly been blessed with what I have experienced.
I have had the opportunity to travel to the most wonderful places, and I have met the most amazing people.
After elementary school, I wanted to do everything possible to immerse myself in the performing arts.
I participated in every activity I possibly could: choir, drill team, drama, band, cheer, and dance. In high school, I was fortunate to find my first 'professional' gig.
I auditioned for a theater troupe called 'New Image Teen Theatre.'
I made the ensemble, and was with them for a year. Under the training of Lizbeth Hinton, I learned the beauty of acting...being able to lose yourself in a character and be someone else for a while is one of the most unbelievable feelings in the world...
After high school, I went on a pageant stint, altogether, I did 8 pageants, capturing two titles.
I have so much respect for women in the pageant community. I really found myself then, I learned that I was so much stronger than I thought I could ever be.
It was a tremendously fulfilling experience.
I then had the honor of working with the San Diego Charger Girls for two years.
By far, the most amazing experience, so far, in my life. We traveled to Australia, Hawaii, and Vegas my first year on the team.
It was truly an honor to share the spotlight with the most amazing women in the world! The memories (and friends) I have taken from those two years will last me a lifetime.
During this time, I had the opportunity to sing the Star Spangled Banner with fellow Charger Girl (and best bud) Brooke Bennett at a home football game.
My musical influence comes from many different genres.
Country (Dolly Pardon, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McIntyre), jazz (Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie
Holiday, Etta James), R&B (Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Anita
Baker), and Pop (Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston). Although I would have to say that my biggest influence is my father, Dean Mulloy.
I'll never forget sitting around with him and my sister, Heather, singing 'Puff the Magic Dragon', while my dad played the guitar.
I always made fun of him and his country music...little did I know that I'd grow to love it just as much as he does.... =)
