For some people the only freedom they have is the freedom of anonimity. For people in repressive societies like China, Saudi Arabia, Iran and other regimes of intolerance their only protection is remaining unseen.

I have often thought of the words of FDR on the subject of freedom: We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is the freedom of speech and expression-everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship god in his own way, everywhere in the world. The third is the freedom from want... everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear...anywhere in the world.

The chief of these freedoms must be freedom of speech. Everything else comes from the basic right to say what you really feel and think. If you are being monitered in your every word and action then freedom is impossible.

Privacy rights now is an organization concerned about the direction the internet is taking in the realm of personal privacy. They make several good points and deserve a good long look.

Remailers is a link about the various types of remailers and how they operate. It also has some links to remailer sites. Remailers do exactly what the name implys, conceal the origin of emails by encryption and redirection.

Anti-keylogger is a program that detects software type keyloggers, the free version only checks for them, the pay version gives you the option of removing them. It doesn't work against hardware type keyloggers. These are usually a 'dongle', that is a piece of hardware that your keyboard plugs into.

Eraser is a free,(my favorite word!) program that overwrites sections of your hard drive when you want to completely delete sensitive information. Before you donate that old computer be sure to use this, or a similar program to clean your hard drive of any personal, sensitive, private information.

Megaproxy helps you to conceal your information from online sites. Use it to help prevent sites from learning your geographical location, browsing habits, isp, and other personal information. Webalias lets you use a shorter version of your website address, it even allows you block users from knowing the actual address of your website.

These links are to various sites that provide privacy in many different ways. Don't think that only people in dictatorial countries need these protections. Many of us have things that we don't want the ex-spouse, the boss, the parents, the kids or the tax man to know about.
