Colonies of Exploitation
Colonies of Exploitation did not attract to many large numbers of permanent European settlers. In these colonies, foreign
powers established political control, if necessary, by force. Yet they did not in any intentional way harm native people or
cultures. Thus, these colonies were much different than those of settlement.
A colony of exploitation had an economy based upon the products of labor of local inhabitants, who worked on either thier
own land or on the plantations. Colonies of exploitation included Indonesia and Malaya in Southeast Asia.
