One of my most favorite ways to fish is called structure fishing. Structure fishing is fishing in and around structures, such as jettys, pilings, and deep sloughs. Anything in the water that takes on the presence of a barrier. This type of setting is where you will find flounder. Flounder have a keen sense of always seeking protection. Flounder will even dig in the ocean bottom for camouflage. Barriers also provide flounder with excellent sources to feed.

First of all, let's talk equipment, in particular, the line you need to use. For example, if I am using 15-pound test line, then I want my leader to be 10-pound test line. The reason for this is because structure fishing will result in many snags. If your leader is made of lighter weight test, it will break at the hook. This will enable you to retrieve your leader and sinker. Before you leave home, be sure to make up at least 20 leaders to take with you. Like I said, structure fishing will result in alot of snags and breaks.
The best time that I have found to structure fish for flounder is on a rising tide. Feed for the flounder get caught up against the barrier with no place to go. This makes a good opportunity for the flounder to chow down. Another good time is late at night, especially if your going to fish in deep sloughs. Puppy drum really like the sloughs late at night when there is no light from the beach. If you do want to try your hand at puppy drum, be sure to have as little light, (lantern light), as possible. You will be sure to find those drum. The darker it is, the closer they will come to shore.
I have listed some links below that show where I do my structure fishing. I hope you enjoy checking them out.
