Talk to Me
| Chapter 8 Nick and Aaron helped Kris find an old pair of Aaron’s sweat pants and a shirt that while slightly baggy, would do until her clothes were dry. Kris realized she needed to not only find out how Evie was doing, but also get in touch with Evie’s family in case the hospital hadn’t done so already. Yesterday her mind was just too foggy to even comprehend rational thoughts like contacting family. Nick and Aaron gave her some privacy while they went to dry the mess in the kitchen. About 45 minutes later Kris found the two brothers playing a video game in the living room. She just sat quietly on the couch watching them while she collected her thoughts. “Nick, you know you suck at this game. Just give it up.” “Aaron, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve kicked your little butt every time we’ve played this. You ain’t gonna win. So you give it up.” Aaron would reach over and mess with Nick’s control buttons. Nick would reach over and cover Aaron’s eyes. The two of them were actually quite amusing to watch. Very competitive. Neither liking the idea of losing to the other. Kris smiled to herself at how much a like they really were. Even right down to their gestures and mannerisms. During one of the times Nick was messing with Aaron, Aaron’s man died and Nick stood up and did some silly victory dance, hands above his head, doing some jumpy, twirly thing Kris was sure she had seen him do on stage at some point or other. She could help but laugh at him. “That is so not fair. You cheat!” Aaron whined. That made Kris really laugh. “What are you laughing at? He cheated. You saw him.” Aaron continued to whine and Kris only laughed harder. “Aaron, I think she thinks you’re funny or something.” Nick wasn’t sure but it was good to see her smile and laugh. “The both of you are hilarious. You,” pointing to Nick, “with that silly dance thing you do all the time; and you,” pointing to Aaron, “Whining just like Nick does. Sheeze! You two are worse than twins. You’re like clones or something. “I do NOT whine!” they both practically yelled at the same time. Nick and Aaron looked at each other then at Kristyne and the three of them burst into laughter. “Ok, so maybe I do a little.” Nick admitted when he was able to catch his breath. “A little?” Kris raised an eyebrow at him. “Oh, don’t even go there. At least I’m able to admit it. Shorty over here, won’t even do that.” Aaron was quick to jump in, “That’s because I don’t. I’m perfect. Just ask anyone.” He looked at Kristyne and added, “Ok, well just about anyone.” “Ok, Aaron, just keep on living in your little land of delusion.” Nick reached down and tousled his brother’s hair. Looking over at Kris he wanted ask what was going on, but knew he couldn’t. He had promised her no questions. “It’s ok, Nick. I guess I need to talk about it some. You were right all along. Keeping things inside only ends up hurting you more.” Even though she was willing to talk about things, she wasn’t exactly comfortable about it and couldn’t meet Nick’s eyes. “I’m gonna go shoot some hoops you two.” Aaron stated as he jumped up and headed out the door before anyone could stop him.
