Anthony was born the 9th child and the 8th son of Anthony and Susannah Cole on June 7, 1839 and diedat Camp Fisher (a confederate calvary training center) near Newburn, N.C. on January 27, 1862 of pnuemonia. He was never married. On September 10, 1861 Anthony volunteered for the Confederate armed forces. He was enlisted by Lieutenant William A. Graham Jr. "for the war". About a year before his death Anthony became a preacher, probably methodist, and set up meetings for his fellow confederates at Camp Fisher. Anthony is the only Cole in our line that achieved the rank of Corporal. Shortly after he contracted pneumonia and died. His father was with him during his brief illness and an older brother, probably Thomas, was with him at the time of his death. Anthony Sr. took all of his sons wearing apparell back to Hillsborough. On September 10,1862 Anthony's father filed a claim for settlement for any monies owing his son by the confederate government. Since he left no heirs the $112.00 final settlement would have gone to his family. His burial site is unknown.
