Career overview

Home

Although John had previous (American) Superbike experience, John surprised quite a few people by entering WSB. And what an entrance it was: a pole position and double victory in the first round of the 1996 season. Some feared that it would become a walk-over, but walk-overs rarely happen in sports. So John ended third in the final ranking, after an eventful season.
In 1997 John was with the best team he'd ever had: they gave him all he wanted, and he gave Honda their much desired WSB title. The first and so far only man to have won both a two stroke and four stroke motorbike racing world championship.
