Inverted Minors (Steve Robinson)
After an inverted minor suit raise (showing 11+ HCP), both Opener and Responder show minimum hands with their first rebids.
1) Holding less than 14 HCP, Opener rebids as follows:
a) With a balanced hand he rebids 2NT, regardless of stoppers.
b) With an unbalanced hand, he rebids his minor suit at the 3 level.
If Responder has 11 or a bad 12 HCP, he rebids as follows:
a) Pass if Opener's rebid is 3 of his minor suit.
b) Rebid the minor suit at the 3 level if Opener's rebid is 2NT.
2) Holding 14+ HCP, Opener rebids as follows:
a) With 18 or 19 HCP, bid 3NT. (Note that Opener cannot have 15 to 17 HCP - he would have opened 1NT).
b) Holding one or more 4-card majors, bid the lower ranking. (The only game may be in a 4-3 major suit fit).
c) With a balanced 14 HCP, bid the other minor artificially.
d) With an unbalanced hand and no 4 card major, bid the other minor (which may be artificial or show a real suit).
All of the above rebids are forcing to 3NT or 4 of the minor. Subsequent bidding is natural.
