Standings
The table below is designed not according to the UEFA points awarded to each teams, but according to the rounds they are eliminated.
Even though the UEFA system is accepted in early 70's and is used since then with some minor changes it doesn't reflect the format of a cup style competition. It was designed like a league format. They award two points for each win and one for each draw. This creates some ambiguities in the cup formatted tournaments. A club eliminated in earlier rounds will have more points awarded than another club still playing in the tournament.
An example from this year: (See below)
Benfica of Portugal eliminated with 0 points in third round. All the clubs eliminated in the previous round have more points than them, and all but one club eliminated two rounds before have more points than them.
The table below shows the rankings of all the clubs eliminated in the same round ranked the same as others. However, the display shows the clubs according to the aggregate score they lost, which is the criteria to progress to the next round. The league round losers are displayed according to how many points they were behind to the last club qualified in their groups.
