So, I spent the weekend at my friend's house. We left at 12:00 (yes, we were THAT crazy) and got there at 12:30. No one was there. Well, there were some people; but they were last minute ticket buyers.
Nevertheless, we were one of the first people there (and damn proud of it too). We went to the refreshment stand by the beach (the venue wasn't opened yet - just the box office [and the man was really nice there]). We sat down, and ate something (that we brought we us).
I must say, I was not impressed with Jones Beach at all. I'm surprised people actually swim in that water. From where we were, I was not impressed. I wasn't even impressed with the theater (from the outside it looked junky). For some reason, though, the refreshment stand (for the beach goers) closed at 1:30. Not that it mattered to us, we had something; but we found it rather strange.
We went back to the box office (as we were supposed to be meeting people there); and finally two people show up at 3:00.
We hung out with them before the doors opened. (The doors opened at 6:30). At around, I think, 4:00, we went back to the refreshment stand and it was opened. (Maybe they were closed for a lunchbreak - who knows?) My friend wanted a drink, and I figured I better get something myself. I brought a pretzel (it was only $1.75, a MORE REASONABLE price). We walked back and heard a little bit of the soundcheck (they didn't play too much, just testing the effects and microphones).
When 6:30 arrived, the two girls who we were with actually wanted to go inside to see the opening act. We said "goodbye, don't say we didn't warn you", and they left.
We stood out there looking for people, and once again - we met up with folks we saw from PNC and Atlantic City. In addition, we met up with another girl and her friends; so we stood out there and talked for awhile. I noticed about four or five bus loads of people coming to this show; so a lot of people took public transportation.
At about 8:20, we went inside (we wanted to make sure we found our seats okay). After looking around inside, I still stick to what I said earlier. Nothing jumped out at me about this place.
This time, we had 14th row center orchestra (at PNC, we had 8th row center). Yes; and once again, I noticed the screens. This time, there were only two. Unfortunately, we had to sit through the last two songs of the opening act (we just sat there holding our ears). When they were done, someone behind us said "thank God". We were thinking the same thing.
I did notice that they didn't allow anyone to sit in the balcony section (makes sense, because things could get a little dangerous up there I believe. There really wasn't that much support up there. I would of been very nervous).
I'm not sure what time DURAN came out (if they came out on time) because I couldn't see my watch. (I don't think they did, I think they were ten minutes late. What else is new?) However, when they came out, they were looking fabulous as usual. The set list was the same as PNC. SIMON was wearing the same outfit he had in Atlantic City, NICK was wearing a black v-neck shirt and I believe the same pants as PNC (I couldn't tell from where I was), WARREN had the hat on again (I think, I don't know, wasn't really looking at him).
Overall, as usual, the concert was great. Loved the glitter jacket, cowboy hat (anyone know the significane of this? Just curious....LOL!), and candle again. Oh; and yes, loved the part where SIMON spit out the water on people (lucky people); and YES! He did the finger sucking thing in "COME UNDONE" (**Faint!**). Loved all the moves (and the "thrusting" during "ALL SHE WANTS IS"). "SECRET OKTOBER", it was a good thing I was sitting down this time (and I imitated the arm and face rubbing thing when SIMON did it....LOL)! Everyone, once again, was full of energy; and SIMON hit the high notes beautifully again! NICK, I noticed, was smiling a lot throughout the show. SIMON did too. :)
A couple of complaints, though. For one thing, what was up with the audience? I don't know, from where I was, they were pretty dead. Some girl and her boyfriend next to me kept laughing every five minutes and pointing (don't know what was so funny; but then again, I didn't care, I was watching SIMON). [Why is it that every concert (except for Atlantic City), that I have to be next to some deadbeat loser who's obviously not a fan, but just there for the heck of it; or I'm by some weirdo people giggling every five minutes?] Also, MOST PEOPLE SAT DOWN DURING "HALLUCINATING ELVIS"! HOW CAN YOU SIT DOWN DURING A SONG LIKE THAT? The only songs we sat down for (I sat down because I got tired) was for "SOMEONE ELSE NOT ME" and "SECRET OKTOBER" (I was sitting for that song because I had to change my tape. Yes, I recorded the show). We were standing and dancing throughout the whole concert, and during "POP TRASH MOVIE", my friend and I were the only ones standing and dancing in our section; so THE BAND SAW US! (LOL!)
I don't think the audience here appreciated the new songs as they did the old songs. Oh sure, everyone got up during "HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF", "THE REFLEX", and songs like that. I mean, there were hardly anyone standing up for "WHITE LINES", which to me was a real shame because they really did an excellent job with it. What a sorry ass audience this was (I'm not saying everyone was, but most of the people from where I was were very boring). In addition, there were people walking to get to their seats which got on our nerves. Thank God there was the screen to look at until those idiots sat down. (Common sense - GET YOUR FOOD BEFORE THE SHOW STARTS!) Also, some moron guy tried dancing with me during "RIO". I, natually, pretended I didn't see him; and he left. (Why me?)
The overall sound was a little better than PNC, and at least there was a breeze here (unlike at PNC - it was hot! Not a good hair day that day).
Well, despite all of that, we had a good time, and we didn't buy anything this time (brought enough in the previous shows). As mentioned earlier, it's ashame it went by so fast; and this was my last concert, and after three shows in one week (I have to say, this was my first time seeing them more than once in a year), I AM DEAD TIRED!!!! (Whew!!) All in all, I think my favorite was Atlantic City because we had the closest seats, but I loved them all; and I'll do it again in a heartbeat! As the saying goes....
PEACE OUT EVERYONE! WHOOSH!
(Oh, and by the way....no one ran up onstage this time....Hee, hee! [And this is the first time - at least for me, that SIMON actually introduced himself on this tour [with the exception of Jones Beach when he said something like "and you all know what my name is!" I thought that was funny].)
