Hybrid
Striper Bass
Bauer’s Pond Power Players!
This is where it all started! We never realized how quickly the
12 -inch hybrids stocked a few short years ago would grow! Ten pound
hybrids were being caught as early as 1994, and the existing (1997)
state record of 10 lbs. 14 oz. has been "unofficially"
broken here three times.
Since we have established a strict catch-and-release policy concerning
hybrids, each of these fish was returned to the pond. One of these
hybrids, "Bubba", was 11
1/2 pounds when the photo to the left was taken! There
is every reason to believe that hybrid striped bass exceeding 14
pounds inhabit Bauer’s Pond. The average Bauer’s hybrid
will tip the scales at 4 pounds or so, and on light spinning or
fly tackle, is pure pandemonium! Late March through mid-November
is prime time for hybrids.
