This booklet has provided some details about what the proportions of the bonsai tree should be. They have studied some of the mose famouse Bonsai Tree, out of there research has they have concluded with these Bonsai Statistics:

Trunk Diameter to Height.

The ratio of the trunks diameter to it's height should be 1:6 to 1:10.
This means that a tree with a diameter of 1-inch should be 6 to 10-inches tall.

The Width of the Tree

The width of a tree from tip to tip of the largest brach of the left and right should be 1/2 of the trees height.

The Lowest Branch

The tip of the lowest branch should be approximately 1/3 of the way up the trunk.
