"And
he said to them, 'Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,
who has been crucified. He is risen; He is not here...'" Mark16:6
Praise God,
Christ has risen from the dead. That last week for our Savior was
a very dark week leading to his death on the cross on Good Friday; but
on Easter Sunday He was alive!
We all have
had some dark days since our children died; some were darker than others.
Seeing my garden come to life that first Easter after my sons died really
lifted my spirits, especially when I remembered that I planted brown dead-looking
bulbs the Fall before. They reminded me of burying my sons.
When the first tulip began pushing out of the ground, my heart leaped.
For some of
you who may be going through that awful first year after your child died,
Easter may be hard for you. Your child is still dead; your child
has not risen back to life on this earth. But, if Christ had not
risen, our hope of ever seeing our child again would be forever doomed.
Christ lived and died not only for our children but also for all of us
that trust Him as our Savior and Lord.
He offers us,
as children of God, eternal life in Heaven where there will be no more
death. Revelation 21:4 says "He shall wipe away every tear from their
eyes; and there shall no longer be any mourning or crying, or pain..."
St. John is saying that the same hands that could stretch out the heavens
will touch your cheeks. The same hands that formed mountains will
caress your face. The same hands that curled in agony as the Roman
spikes cut through will someday cup your face and brush away your tears
forever. (Quoted from the Applause of Heaven by Max Lucado.)
In the next
world, "Good-bye" will never be spoken. So, thank God for Easter.
It is a reminder of the great reunion that will come when as Christians,
we all go to our REAL home, Heaven, and join our children and loved ones
again.
