Garbo spricht! " stand im Frühjahr auf Titelseiten von Zeitschriften. Die
Zuschauer kamen ins Kino, um die Stimme der rätselhaften und scheuen Schwedin
zu hören, die bis dahin nur hehre Fiktion und Phantasie war. Nach 16 Minuten
Filmzeit kam sie, setzte sich in die Bar und ein tiefes erotisches Timbre sprach
"Gimme a whisky, ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy baby!"
Der Film handelt von der Beziehung einer Prostituierten zu einem Seemann und ihrer Suche nach ihrem Vater. Sie bekam einen Academy Award. In einer weiteren Rolle sieht man Marie Dressler, einem Stummfilmstar der frühen Jahre in ihrem Come-Back. Die Garbo hatte ihr Tonfilmdebüt, an dem manche Stummfilmstars gescheitert waren bestanden. Der Film wurde in einer zweiten Version noch einmal in Deutsch gedreht. |

"Garbo talks" was to be read on the title of "Vanity Fair". 16 minutes will it last before Garbo comes into the bar and says her first sentences "Gimme a whiskey, ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy baby!". She received her first Academy Award. Beside her an old verteran from the early silent days, Mary Dressler in her come back. Stuff is about the realation of prostitute to a sailor meanwhile she is searching for her real father. |

Abandonnée par son père Chris (Georg f. Marion) maltraitée par ceux auxquels elle avait été confiée, Anna Christie a sombré dans la prostitution. Lasse de cette vie dégradée, elle rejoint son père sur le bateau où il vit. Elle y rencontre und clocharde, qui fut jadis la maîtresse de Chris. Un jour, entre elle et un matelot, Matt (Charles Bickford), que son père a sauvé de la noyade, se noue une idylle qui ne va malheureusement pas résister à l'aveu qu'Anna fera de sa vie passée. Mais ce qui lie ces deux êtres est profond: Matt reviendra et demandera à Anna de devenir sa femme. |
