A quick comment:     Back to Review A-III     Back to Ultra Magnus Homepage

When these figures were first released, there was no gift set version.  And so, I had to purchase each component separately starting with Armada Optimus Prime followed by Armada Jetfire and later Energon Ultra Magnus.  The fans did not know Jet Convoy has the ability to merge with Ultra Magnus (or Overload) until the figure was finally released.

Unfortunately the U.S. version did not have any motto or tech spec for either Magna Jet Convoy or Jet Convoy.  However, they may have in Japanese Cannon.

R-2 Energon Ultra Magnus/ Armada Optimus Prime/ Armada Jetfire in Vehicle Mode:

magjetconvoy1.jpg (58881 bytes)Once fans got a hold of Armada Optimus Prime for the first time, the first suspicious question was like why was there a hole on the back and bottom of Prime's trailer?  The answer was later revealed when Ultra Magnus (or Overload) was released.  Energon Ultra Magnus trailer can be hauled by either Prime cab or connected onto the back of Prime trailer.  Of course to this, you would have to take out the Minicon Knockout (the white cab of Ultra Magnus) to avoid the conflict.  During this hauling process, Knockout can be converted into a gun and store on either Ultra Magnus trailer (top left image) or on Prime trailer (middle image).  Last but not least, Jetfire can be carried by Ultra Magnus and when all three are connected to one another it gives you that massive and overload caravan transport looks.

R-3 As Jet Convoy:

jetconvoyrob1a.jpg (52612 bytes)jetconvoyrob1b.jpg (39419 bytes)When Armada Armada Optimus Prime and Armada Jetfire merges with one another, the result is Jet Convoy.  In Japan, Optimus Prime is known as Convoy so technically, the U.S. is borrowing a Japanese combine name.  If Hasbro were to use the English name, then it would either be Jet Optimus or Jet Prime which doesn't sound too good compare to Jet Convoy.  Anyhow, Optimus forms the upper body while Jetfire forms the pant.  The connection between these two are very secure unlike Omega Prime of RID.  In addition, the transformation isn't too complex.  Jet Convoy biggest weakness is articulation.  The reason is that his elbow cannot bent fully upright, only about 80 degree up.  As for the rest, he hardly has them see R-5 for more detail.

R-4 As Magna Jet Convoy:

magjetconvoyrob1.jpg (54914 bytes)magjetconvoyrob2.jpg (42923 bytes)magenergonweap1.jpg (41101 bytes)Jet Convoy merges with Energon Ultra Magnus to form Magna Jet Convoy (left image).  Surprisingly, the connection among the trio are very stable in their combine mode.  Just like R-3, this combiner name is also derived from the Japanese Canon since the  U.S. didn't have one.  The right image is what  Energon Ultra Magnus looks like in his dual cannon mode which is placed on top of Jet Convoy shoulder and the connection is joined just below his neck.  To do this configuration, you have to detach Energon Ultra Magnus lower leg and reattach onto the the arm then do a simple rotation and you're all set.  If you don't have Armada Jetfire action figure, Energon Ultra Magnus cannon mode can still be used and merged with Armada Optimus Prime.  In order to this, Prime would have to merge with his trailer first to form the Super Prime mode before combining with  Energon Ultra Magnus.  The two black missiles that come with Energon Ultra Magnus is designed to use in the cannon mode and in R-5 below.  Strangely, Energon Ultra Magnus cannot use the two missiles during his regular robot mode or the jet carrier mode.

R-5 Energon Ultra Magnus & Armada Optimus Prime in Battled Station Mode:

magenergonweap2.jpg (48080 bytes)magenergonweap3.jpg (42440 bytes)Not only the does Energon Ultra Magnus can be hauled in vehicle mode by Armada Optimus Prime as seen in R-2 or merged with him in robot mode in R-4, he has another configuration that can be mounted onto Prime battled mode trailer (right image) for more firepower.  This configuration is very similar to R-4 with minor changes to Ultra Magnus chest and thigh swinging downward.
