R-1 Energon Ultra Magnus in its Original condition:

magenergonorig.jpg (81827 bytes)1 - Energon Ultra Magnus  in its brand new condition from the box.

2 - Back of the box with error toy ads in which Ultra Magnus was originally supposed to packaged with the Street Team, but instead he got the Space Team.

3 - Here's how the contents look once the box was removed revealing the contents tie onto the cardboard while others are sandwiched between two clear plastic tray.  And on a separate taped back, that's where you'll find all the paper works.

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" cab, "1" trailer, "2" Ultra Magnus' missiles, "1" satellite, "1" Astroscope's missile, "1" shuttle, "1" shuttle carrier, "1" Ultra Magnus  instruction sheet, "1" Space Team instruction sheet, "1" trading card, and "1" Toy Catalog/ comic.

R-2 Energon Ultra Magnus in Vehicle Mode:

magenergonveh1.jpg (50540 bytes)Depending on which person you talk to, Energon Ultra Magnus will be classified as a repaint of either the Armada Overload (U.S.) or the Micron Legend/ Disensu Ultra Magnus (Japan).  Both answer is corrected since Overload and Ultra Magnus is essentially the same character but was called differently between the U.S. and Japan.  Anyhow, in vehicle mode, Ultra Magnus is a jet carrier whose measurement including the white truck aka Knockout is approximately 10 3/16 X 3 1/2 X 4 5/16 in inch.  And in my opinion, the appearance of the jet carrier is a little bit disappointed as the design is little bit weak in both aesthetic and style.  I mean having this huge trailer and is hauling by this teeny tiny white truck just doesn't look right.  For starter, it's not proportion to one another and the scale is way off.  Secondly, the overall form is too simple.  On the contrary, the details are actually very impressive all around the vehicle.  For instance, there's a flappable gun on the bottom and another dual gun on the top of either side of the vehicle.

R-3 Jet Carrier:

magenergonveh2.jpg (60852 bytes)As jet carrier, Energon Ultra Magnus is designed specifically for the space shuttle Armada Jetfire.  This is the first Ultra Magnus incarnation whose alternated mode is not a car carrier like the previous line G1 or RID incarnation.  Despites this, Energon Ultra Magnus is not the first Ultra Magnus incarnation to claim the title jet carrier because the original G1 Ultra Magnus was both a car carrier and a jet carrier as advertised by the front of the box as well as in the Japanese toy commercial.

R-4 Energon Ultra Magnus in Robot Mode::

magenergonrob1.jpg (47803 bytes)magenergonrob2.jpg (37912 bytes)Energon Ultra Magnus is mostly beautiful in robot mode in contrast to his alternated mode.  The four features that will get your attention immediately when looking at this figure are the shoulder extended joint, the shoulder flap connection, the white cab truck, and the colors.  All of these characteristics plus the clicking sound and arm transformation are all homage to the original G1 Ultra Magnus.  And unlike the G1 Ultra Magnus, this Energon Ultra Magnus comes with an electronic sound device.  To hear the sound, simply press the white cab truck (located on the chest) all the way to the back until it hits a little button which then initiate a sound that will play the classic G1 transformation sound just like the cartoon.  Another great thing about Energon Ultra Magnus is that in can be combined with Armada Optimus Prime, see R-7 for more.  The biggest weakness that this figure has is lacked of articulation especially for its large size, see R-8 on Articulation for detail.  For those that wonder where the two black missiles that came with Energon Ultra Magnus go, well, it actually is inserted on the back of his black feet heel.  Those missiles are actually for the battle mode when combine with Armada Optimus Prime, see R-7.

R-5 Energon Ultra Magnus Details and Powerlink:

magenergondet1.jpg (65047 bytes)So, is Energon Ultra Magnus a Headmaster?  Obviously he does fit into this category as you can see from the left image of Ultra Magnus and the minicon name Knockout who form the head.  In addition to this gizmo and the sound capability, my other favorite feature is the flipped out shoulder pad that reveals 10 non-functional missiles inside the pad, bottom middle image.  And last but not least,  Energon Ultra Magnus can be power link up to 7 minicons, right image.

Power Link Port:

Total Power Link Port: 7

Active Power Link Port: 0 (Although when Knockout is inserted into Ultra Magnus chest and a sound will play, that's not really a power link port).

Dead Power Links Port: 7 (1 on either side of his leg, arm, and shoulder joint.  Also 1 on the back of  Ultra Magnus head).

Special Storage Features: None.

R-6 Energon Ultra Magnus w/ Requiem Blaster (Space Team):

magenergonrob3.jpg (54218 bytes)The Energon Space Team that packaged with Energon Ultra Magnus is basically a repaint or redeco of the original Armada Space Team.  Originally, Ultra Magnus was meant to package with the Street Team.  For that reason, that's why you see an ad of the Street Team of the back of Ultra Magnus box.  Anyhow, the Space Team in addition to have its own robot and alternated mode, can be combined to form a super weapon called Requiem Blaster (top left).  Unfortunately, due to the design of Ultra Magnus forearm or wrist, there's a conflict which make it impossible for Ultra Magnus to hold the Requiem Blaster.  To solve this problem, you would have to reconfigure Payload handle and transformation so that the handle is positioned all the way to the rear, see bottom left image.  If you do it right, Ultra Magnus should be able to hold the Requiem Blaster, right image.

Fun Figure: [-A] - Definitely a fun toy due to many functions and play values.

Negative Drawback - As a figure, Ultra Magnus doesn't have any real negative feedback.  Unfortunately, the weapon that were included with, Requiem Blaster (Space Team) wasn't designed for Ultra Magnus figure since the two items aren't compatible with one another without some adjustment.

Robot's Cartoon looks alike: [N/A] - Not applicable.

Vehicle's Cartoon looks alike: [N/A] - Not applicable.

Special Notes: Here are "3" special notes which I thought you should know:

1 - Although the battery is included with the figure, for future reference, Energon Ultra Magnus required "3 button cells battery 1.5V "A-76 (LR44)"  to play his transformation sound when you press the white cab on his chest.  Of course you can do it manual too without the help of any minicon.

2 - Feet Missile launcher came with spring so missile can be fired out, check for spring.

3 - In the long run when Energon Ultra Magnus material wears down at the elbow tab, the upper arm portion will lose its ability to hold the lower arm in place.  The result will make Energon Ultra Magnus has a long arm or gorilla arm looks when the lower arm slide down.  To prevent this from happening, don't over transform his arm.

Overall Grade: [A] - I actually like this figure because one,  it gave homage to the G1 Ultra Magnus.  Two, it combines with Armada Prime.  And three, the robot mode actually looks great.
