Tri-C students celebrated the Holiday of Pesach (Passover), the celebration of Jewish freedom from Egypt. * Thursday April 23 - Yom Hashoa (Holocaust commemeration day). The JSU sponsored Holocaust speaker Jacob Hennenberg. Mr. Hennenberg, a survivor of the Holocaust spoke of his experiences: When the Nazis made the Jews wear yellow stars, Mr. Hennenberg's father told his family to wear them with pride, as a badge of honor, not a badge of shame. Mr. Hennenberg still has his star, which he showed. Mr. Hennenberg's concentration camp tatoo number adds up to 18, or chai, which means life in Hebrew. * Thursday April 30 - Israeli Independence Day. Tri-C students celebratd 50 years since the British Mandatory government left and Israel became an independent Jewish State. Since then, millions of Jews from all over the world have come to their ancient homeland to live. |
