Constitution of the Tri-C Jewish Student Union Preamble We the members of the Jewish Student Union of Cuyahoga Community College do hereby establish this constitution of the Jewish Student Union in order to continually improve the role of all students in particular the Jewish students in feeling comfortable with who they are and where they are going; to encourage understanding of Jewish culture, traditions and to fortify the Jewish national commitment to the precepts of the holy Torah in the world and on campus. ARTICLE I NAME AND AUTHORITY Section 1. NAME: The name of this organization shall be the Jewish Student Union of Cuyahoga Community College. Section 2. The authority of the Jewish Student Union of Cuyahoga Community College is derived from the student body, faculty administration and the board of trustees in accordance with the public laws of the state of Ohio. Article II PURPOSE Section 1 The purpose of the Jewish Student Union at Cuyahoga Community College is: A. To depend the academic communities understanding of, and strengthen the identification with the heritage of the Jewish people. B. To protect and represent the rights of the members of the academic community. C. To defend the Jew in particular but all students in general, from defamation and discrimination. Article III SCOPE OF THE JEWISH STUDENT UNION The Jewish student Union shall have the authority to: A. Establish the qualifications of its members in accordance with the established policies of Cuyahoga Community College. B. Establish the rules of proceedings of meetings. C. Establish the time and date of regular sessions. D. Establish and regulate all special and general campus elections and referendums of the Jewish Student Union. E. Research and make recommendations. F. Legislate on any Jewish Student Union matter in accordance with college policy and procedures. G. Aid in the planning, supervision and coordination of Jewish Student Union activities. Article IV ADVISOR Section 1. The advisor shall work closely and directly with the members of the Jewish Student Union: Show enthusiasm and belief for the purpose of the Jewish Student Union. Article V OFFICERS OF THE JEWISH STUDENT UNION Section 1 The officers of the Jewish Student Union shall be the president, vice president, and cabinet members without portfolio. Section 2 The duties of the officers of the Jewish Student Union shall be as follows: A. The president shall: 1. Preside at the session of The Jewish Student Union 2. Have the authority to create such committees as he/she agrees necessary to carry out the functions of the Jewish Student Union. 3. Be the student representative to the administration and faculty. 4. Serve from the second week of the Fall quarter to the following yearly elections in September. 5. Have the authority to make appointments B. Vice-President shall: 1. Full fill the duties of the president in his or her absence 2. Serve a one year term from the second week of fall quarter to the following election. C. Secretary shall: 1. Record the minutes. 2. Read the minutes of the last meeting. 3. Prepare all documents of the Jewish Student Union. D. Treasurer shall: 1. Keep a written record of all Jewish Student Union funds. 2. Keep members informed on the budget of the Jewish Student Union. E. Cabinet members without portfolio shall; 1. Represent the Jewish student union on the campus and in public. 2. Investigate proposals for new programs or modifications to existing programs. Article VI Elections Elections for president and vice-president and members without portfolio shall be held during the second week of the fall quarter. The electorate shall be the members of the Jewish Student Union. The term of office shall be for one year. Article VII MEETINGS A. May be called by the president or vice-president of the Jewish Student Union. Article VIII AMENDMENTS A. Proposed amendment must be submitted in writing to the president of the Jewish Student Union. B. Amendments passed by the Jewish Student Union shall be enacted immediately. Article IX RECALL AND REPEAL To initiate recall proceedings against any elected member of the Jewish Student Union: A. Any member must submit a petition of repeal against an officer and receive a simple majority vote. Article X BY LAWS A. Respect B. The meetings will be called to order by the president and follow with a simple two thirds majority vote to begin the proceedings. C. Anything concerning the Jewish Student Union may be spoken about at each and every meetings. D. If the secretary os not present at the beginning of the meeting then, one officer will be chosen by a simple majority to record the minutes. E. Parliamentary procedure, shall apply when conducing meeting. F. The meetings will be adjourned with a motion to recess by any officer. The motion will require a simple majority for passing. |
