On the last TNT broadcast of WCW Nitro, Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. won the Cruiserweight Tag Titles. However, the WWF bought WCW and signed Kidman but did not sign Mysterio so the title was vacated. Kidman made his debut on Smackdown in June 2001. He beat Gregory Helms for the Cruiserweight Title. At WCW/ECW-WWF Invasion, he beat WWF Light Heavyweight Champion X-pac in a battle of junior heavyweights. He lost the Cruiserweight Title to X-pac shortly thereafter, and was put out with a knee injury. He came back in October and regained the belt from X-pac, but lost it to Tajiri two weeks later. After the Alliance lost the winner-take-all match at Survivor Series, Kidman was forced off TV along with most of the other Alliance members.
He returned at the roster split of April 2002, being drafted to Vince McMahon's Smackdown brand. He competed in the Cruiserweight division and won the title from Tajiri. He lost it back to Tajiri at Backlash and failed to win it back in rematches. Kidman drifted aimlessly for a long time, losing to Jamie Noble at Vengeance. He finally received another shot at the Cruiserweight belt at Survivor Series, beating Noble. He defended it well in matches against Tajiri and Chavo Guerrero. He teamed with Chris Benoit, Edge and others, but was unsuccessful in capturing the WWE Tag Team Titles from the Guerreros.
He held the Cruiserweight Title until No Way Out 2003, when he lost to Matt Hardy. However, he was put out of action in with a shoulder injury as a result of a tag match with Team Angle shortly thereafter.
