The Origins Of The Druckemiller Name
"drucken" means to push or press. In fact, on many of the doors in Germany today you'll find a sticker or sign that says "druken" or push. Miller, is just what it implies, a person whose occupation is in the milling business. So, putting the two together, the translation is "push-miller" or reversed, "mill-press". In the Mainz, Germany area where many of the Truckenmillers emigrated from, printing had just emerged as a result of the development of the Gutenberg press. Some of our ancestors may have been in this business. However, taking the spelling of the name even farther back, you will find Truckenmuller, Truckhenmuller, Truckhenmullner and the earliest in year 1460, Wolfgang Tagmullner.
