Head Over Heels

Head Over Heels part 1
By Dian Seiter

Jen checked her make-up in the mirror one more time before she headed out the door. As she got in her car and drove towards the venue, she still couldn't believe that she was going backstage to interview 'N Sync. She worked as an intern for a record label and this was her first real job all by herself. When her boss asked her if she could handle it, she'd had a hard time containing her exictement. But she was NOT going to blow this assignment just because she was crazy about 'N Sync. She loved their music and their voices, but JC was her favorite. She made a mental note to not show him more attention just because of that. She would force herself to be professional and calm during the interview. She even got to watch the concert from side stage. After a few minute's drive, she arrived at the venue. She got out of her car and went into the building. She looked around and finally found a bodyguard and asked them where 'N Sync was. When he looked at her like she was crazy, she showed him her pass that allowed her access to everything and he showed her where to go. She walked up to the door that he pointed out to her, took a deep breath, and knocked. She found herself staring into a beautiful pair of blue eyes.
"Can I help you?" The pair of eyes asked.
"Yes. I'm Jennifer. Scratch that. Jen. And I'm here for the interview." She said, trying to sound professional.
"Oh, hi Jen. I'm JC. Come on in." He stepped aside so she could enter the room.
When Jen walked in, she saw that the room was set up basically like your normal, everyday living room. There was a couch, a loveseat, a chair, a coffee table, a TV, VCR, and a stereo. She saw that Justin, Joey, Lance, and Chris were sitting and playing a video game.
"Hey guys. This is Jen. She's here to do the interview Lou told us about." JC said to the rest of the guys.
"Hi Jen." Came the mixed chorus.
"Hello guys. Do you think you could tear yourself away from that video game for a few minutes? I promise I won't take up much of your time." She tried not to sound too demanding.
They all got up and JC joined them as they sat down on the couch and loveseat. Jen sat down in the chair and took out their notepad. She got through the interview quickly, trying to make good on her promise. They were very cooperative, which made it easier for her. After she was done, she thanked them and got up to leave.
JC walked her to the door and went out in the hall with her. "Do you need tickets to the show?"
"No, I get to watch from backstage. But thanks." She smiled at him.
He thought how pretty she was when she smiled. "Okay. I'll see you later then." As she turned and walked off, he watched her long hair swinging behind her.

part 2~~~~~~
Jen kept up her end of the bargain and watched the concert from backstage. She thought the show was great and JC looked awesome. As they were coming off stage, JC spotted Jen and grabbed her hand.
"Come with me." He said and pulled her along.
Jen opened her mouth to say something, but nothing would come out so she let herself be tugged along. JC finally stopped pulling and Jen saw that they were in a small room. She also noticed that all the guys had taken their shirts off and were in white wifebeaters with towels around their necks. *How lucky can one girl be, to get to be in the same room with 5, fine, sweaty men?* She thought to herself. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned her head only to find herself inches from JC's face. She jumped a little. "You scared me JC!"
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. So how did you like the show?" He asked her with a hopeful look on his face.
"It was great. I don't know how you guys do all that dancing and sing so great at the same time. Don't you get tired?"
"Yeah, but we're used to it now I guess." He replied grinning.
Jen blushed a little because her mind just hit a line drive to left field.
"What's the matter? Did I embarass you?" JC asked with a concerned look on his face.
"No. I just realized where I was and who I was with." She blushed even more because she had said the first thing that popped in her head. She made a mental note to think before she spoke the next time. "I'm sorry. I'm acting like an obsessed teenager. To tell you the truth, I really like your music and you're my favorite group."
"Oh well that's a good thing right?" He asked her and smiled.
"Yeah it is. For you anyways. For me, it's a little nerve-wracking." Jen chuckled at herself.
"Well you were so calm during the interview you did earlier."
"That's because I had to be professional then. I'm an intern, and that interview was my first real responsibility. I couldn't screw it up."
They made some more small talk, then JC excused himself to go change. Jen sat down on the couch and waited for him. After about 15 minutes he reappeared looking awfully sexy.
"I feel so much better in clean clothes!" He exclaimed. "Hey, do you wanna go get something to eat?"
She blushed again and said, "Sure I'd love to." and followed him out the door.

part 3~~~~~~~~~~
They got into Jen's car and drove to a nearby restaurant that she knew well. She knew that there wouldn't be many people there and that it would be quiet. She stopped the car and turned to see him staring at her. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No particular reason." He said smiling. They got out and went in the restaurant. "This is a really nice place."
"Yeah, I used to come here all the time with my parents. I knew that there wouldn't be many people here, so that you wouldn't have to worry about being mobbed." She laughed a little. They found a table and sat down. Shortly after, a waiter brought them their menus. They looked over them for a little while until they decided what they wanted, then JC signaled the waiter. After they ordered, they just sat and talked.
A really great slow song came on and JC looked at Jen and asked, "Would you mind dancing with me?"
"I'd love to." Jen replied. She couldn't believe this was happening to her. She was having dinner and dancing with JC. He led her out onto the small dance floor and took her into his arms. She let herself relax and slipped her arms around his neck. They moved slowly to the music until the song ended. Then, with their hands locked and their fingers intertwined they went back to their table. At the table, JC moved his chair closer to hers. Jen looked at him and smiled. It wasn't long until their food came and they ate, making small talk all the while. When they were done, they danced again and got ready to leave. JC picked up the check and reached for his wallet.
"You don't have to do that, JC. I can pay for my own dinner." Jen told him.
"That's okay, Jen. I asked you out, remember?" JC said and paid the check. They got back in Jen's car and drove off.
"I guess you'll be wanting to get back to the other guys." She looked at JC out of the corner of his eyes.
"Well, actually, I don't have to right now. Do you know of any place we can go sit?"
Jen smiled to herself. "I know the perfect place."

part 4~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jen and JC made small talk as she drove.
"Where are you taking me?" JC asked, smiling at her.
"You'll see." She turned to glance at him. His eyes were shining in the soft glow of the dash lights. After a few more minutes of driving, she pulled onto a barely visible road. She caught JC looking at her quizically out of th corner of her eye and smiled. She eased her car down the bumpy road and finally came to the spot she was looking for. She pulled up a little farther and stopped. "Well don't just sit there, get out with me." She told him and got out. He stepped out of his side and followed her. She stopped at the edge of the water. The water was still and the moon's reflection was a perfect mirror.
JC stared in amazement for a minute, then turned to her. "This is really beautiful. How did you know about it?"
"Believe it or not, we used to party out here when I was in high school. I still come out here all the time." She told him and he laughed softly. They climbed up on the hood of her car and sat down. After a couple of minutes, JC put his arm around her shoulders. He was tense at first, then relaxed when she didn't pull away. As he sat there holding her, his heart stirred in his chest. *Stop it* he chastized himself. She's just another girl.
Just then, Jen turned to look at him. "Do you need to get back?"
"No, not yet. Besides, I like sitting here with her." His eyes sparkled in the moonlight and she found herself mesmerized with his gaze. As if in a dream, he began to lean closer to her.
He stopped inches from her face. "Is is okay if I kiss you?" He whispered, his breath caressing her lips.
She nodded her head and met his lips with her own. He kissed her softly on the lips and pulled away for a second, looking into her eyes. Seeing that there was no resistance there, he closed the distance again. This time she opened her mouth to his. His tongue slipped past her lips and caressed the inside of her mouth. He brought his hand up to her face and lightly touched her cheek. They turned into each other more and her arms slipped around his neck. Finally, Jen broke the kiss and looked at him. She blushed and dropped her eyes. JC put his hand under her chin and lifted her head so that her eyes were even with his again. "You don't have to be embarassed." He took her hand in his and they sat there for a while longer looking at the stars.
Jen slid off the hood of the car. "I'd better get you back before they send out a search party." She turned and started to get back in the car.
JC slid down as well and followed her, taking her into his arms. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For being with me, for bringing me here to your special place and sharing it with me." He took her face in his hands and touched her lips softly with his, then went and got in on the other side of the car.
Jen got in and turned the car around and headed back. They sat in comfortable silence while she drove through the night. Too soon, she pulled back into the parking lot where the bus was waiting.
JC got and walked around to her side of the car. "Can I have your phone number?"
She nodded and found a piece of paper and a pen and scribbled her number down. She handed it to him and said, "Good night."
He leaned down and kissed her again. "Good night." Then he turned and walked to the bus.

part 5~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jen watched him climb onto the bus then drove off towards her house. She cranked up the radio as she drove and smiled to herself. 'I can't believe I got to meet him.' She pulled into her driveway and went into the house, singing to herself.

****
JC got undressed as quietly as possible, trying not to wake anyone up. All of the lights were out and he assumed everyone else was asleep. He laid down in his bunk and thought about Jen. He thought about their dinner and the place she took him afterwards. He remembered how her lips had felt against his when they kissed, how her hair had shimmered in the moonlight, her dimples when she smiled. 'Damn. I've got to quit this. She was just doing her job.' He turned over and fell asleep.

****
Jen walked up the stairs to her room. She took her clothes off and put on a tee shirt and some boxer shorts. She got into bed and stared up at the ceiling. As she lay there, she thought about their dinner and the kiss they shared afterwards. 'I was probably just another girl to him. He has thousands of girls throwing themselves at him night after night. There's no reason why I should stick out in his mind.' After a while, she finally fell asleep, and dreamed about JC.

****
The next morning, JC woke up and climbed out of his bunk. He trudged into the kitchen area and opened the refrigerator door.
"Well good morning loverboy." Lance said from behind him.
"Oh shut up albino boy." JC turned around for a minute to stick his tongue out at Lance, then went back to searching the refrigerator for something to eat. He gave up and grabbed some cereal from the cabinet. He poured some in a bowl and added a little milk. He turned around and made Justin scoot over so that he could sit down at the table.

****
Jen rolled over and looked at the clock. It read 7:23am. "Shit! I'm gonna be late!" She jumped out of bed and got in the shower. She brushed her hair out and looked in the mirror. "Guess I'm going zombie today." She said to herself, referring to the fact that she didn't have time to put any make-up on because she was supposed to be at work at 8. She threw some make-up in a little bag, hoping to have time at lunch to put it on, and ran down the stairs and out the door. She jumped in her car and headed towards work. "Thank goodness it's not very far." She noticed that the clock on the radio said 7:52am. A few minutes later, she drove into the parking lot. Jumping out and locking the doors, she ran into the building and took the stairs, knowing how long it took to catch the elevator at this time of morning. Once she got to the fifth floor, she stopped for a second to catch her breath and compose herself. Clutching her briefcase in her hand, she walked into the office and smiled at the secrectary.
