If You Came Back From Heaven
Hey guys. This is a short story I wrote for my little sis, Elise. It's kinda sad so don't say I didn't warn you! The lyrics in this story are from the song, "If You Came Back From Heaven" by Lorrie Morgan. If you've never heard the song, I really recommend it. She is a country artist and it's one of her older songs. It's about her late husband, Keith Whitley, who was a very great country artist. Enjoy the story.

Short Story for Elise

Justin sat on the ledge of the bay window looking out at the lake. He thought about how he and his wife, Elise, used to come out her for the weekend on his breaks from touring. God he missed her! Why did it have to happen to her? Elise had never hurt anyone in her life. She was so sweet.

I wouldn't know what to say
I wouldn't know what to do
If you came back from Heaven
And I could look at you
Would I fumble for the words
Would I be a little shy
Would I bust right out with laughter
Or break right down and cry

He didn't even notice the tears running down his face as he sat there and remembered their wedding, their honeymoon, and how they were planning on starting a family soon.

Could we just pick up where we left off

It would freeze me in my tracks
And I hope God knows if he let you go

The sky darkened outside and the rain came pouring down. The water paths on the window glass matched the tracks the tears made down Justin's face. He went back to that horrible day 3 months ago.
***FLASHBACK***
"Honey, where are you taking me?" Elise said trying to peek out from under her blindfold.
"You'll find out when we get there silly, just sit tight." Justin tweeked her nose. He had turned his head to the side so he didn't see the semi cross the yellow lines and head straight for them. He brought his hand to her face to caress her cheek.
"JUSTIN!!" Elise screamed and then everything went black. When he woke up the rain was pouring in through the broken windshield. He felt warmth on his face and turned to look at Elise.
"Oh my God." He said to himself. She was unconscious as well and it looked like her legs were pinned under the dash. There was a large cut on her forehead and blood was pouring from it. "Elise. Baby. Wake up. Please." He took her hand and prayed for her to hear him.
"Justin. JUSTIN!"
"I'm here baby, I'm hear. Hold on, help will be here soon."
"Justin. I love you so much. I just want you to know that." Her voice was getting weaker.
"Elise! No baby! Hold on just a little longer." Justin pleaded with her.
"I can't. I'll see you again someday. I'm sure of it. Take care of yourself."
"Elise. I love you baby don't leave me, please. Elise!"
She took one more breath and she was gone.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Justin screamed into the night.
***END FLASHBACK***
He would never forget that day as long as he lived. He missed her so much. Everytime he saw a couple on the street, he thought of the life they'd never have.

He couldn't, wouldn't believe that she was gone forever. He couldn't live without her. What would he do?

Justin looked up and thought he must be hallucinating because he saw Elise standing before him. "Elise? Is that you?"
"Justin, you have to let go and move on with your life."
"Elise. I can't, not without you."
"Is that what you really want?" She pointed towards the gun lying on the ledge.
"If that's the only way I can be with you." He replied.

I hope he knows if you go

"Then come my love and be with me."
Justin picked up the gun and held it to his head. "I'm coming, Elise" He pulled the trigger.
