The
Singing Back-up Singers (#5)
During their tenure with Victoria's Secret Service, Ffej and Joe Wagner, though by default, re-formed Cricket Machine* (however, they didn't really use the name), a duo featuring Ffej's voice and Wagner's unique guitar styling. Originally intended as a promotion for Victoria's Secret Service, this showcase, scheduled to be aired on WQSU 88.9 FM in Selinsgrove, PA, would include live music and band interviews. However, of the five musicians, only Ffej and Wagner were able to attend. So, the pair decided to perform together, and the net result was five impromptu songs, including a hastily rehearsed cover of the Jimi Hendrix classic "Fire" (which they learned in five minutes at the radio station by obtaining the lyrics and guitar tab from the internet). This was the first and only live performance by the duo.
*Footnote - Cricket Machine was formed by Ffej and Joe way back in 1993 when Blather's Kite was situated in Philadelphia. They recorded a 3-song EP featuring the lost tracks "Shortyville," "Mr. Sauer Kraut," and "Slapshot." The master tape was later stolen when the group's apartment was burgularized. Unfortulately, proper mixdowns of the music never occurred, resulting in the duo's trail to obscurity.
