ABOUT PWF
The Pennsylvania (now Premier) Wrestling Federation debuted on March 15, 2001 as the brain child of former NWA and ECW World heavyweight champion The King Of Old School Steve Corino. Corino had been producing shows for the Reading, PA based Intercontinteal Wrestling Association and wanted to expand the shows. The owner of the IWA was not prepared to expand and with his blessing created the PWF.
The first PWF champions were determined by who the current IWA champions were. Steve Corino was the IWA Heavyweight champion and was named the first PWF Universal champion, Evan Leppy was the IWA Lightheavyweight champion and was named the first PWF Junior heavyweight champion, and The Damned (Mad Dog & Draven) were the IWA tag team champions and were named the first PWF Universal tag team champions.
On March 15, 2001 the PWF crowned the first Television champion when Guillotine LeGrande made Hadrian submit to win the PWF TV title Battle Royal. Also on the premiere PWF show, High Profile Dylan Night suckered Steve Corino into an impromptu Universal title match, and with the help of The Damned, pinned Corino in an unbelievable 37 seconds!
The PWF became the Premier Wrestling Federation in June of 2001 when Rob Dimenson bought the 50% of the company. The reason the name was changed because Premier means "First rate" and that is the goal of the PWF-to give its fans First rate professional wrestling at a affordable price.
On December 1, 2001, the PWF expanded to the Mid-South with the birth of PWF Mid-South. In early 2002, expansion to New England led to the birth of PWF Northeast. Each league has its own champions, with the Pennsylvania-based PWF serving as the Universal promotion.
