LEGACY CUP 2002

Pottstown, PA: September 15, 2002

If you were sitting at home watching The Sopranos season debut, or NFL football, you have no idea what you missed at Academy Hall, as the 2002 Legacy Cup was off the charts, full of matches that you will want to see time and time again.
Rob Dimension opened the show with a ceremony for the eight participants in the tournament, wishing them good luck.

First Round Action:

Billy Bax scored what had to be termed an upset, when he defeated PWF U.S. champion Jay Briscoe with a belly to belly suplex. The two men battled tooth and nail for almost 12 minutes, escaping each other's finishing manuevers in the process. A huge win for Bax, who has to catapault himself into title contention.

The Amazing Red w/Allison Danger defeated Junior Heavyweight champion Quiet Storm with the Red Star Press. As is the norm when these two hook it up, the outcome could have gone either way, as both men pulled out all of the stops to advance to the next round. One highlight of the match was Red hitting Storm with a sunset flip piledriver that defies explanantion.

Rapid Fire Maldonado w/Chi Chi Cruz defeated Striker. Cruz was the deciding factor in this one, as his distraction of referee John Finnegan allowed Maldonado to gain the advantage over Striker. Striker looked very sharp, and undoubtedly kept himself in the title scene with his performance.

"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels w/Simply Luscious defeated Chris Divine w/Trinity with the devastating Angel's Wings. Divine's stock continues to rise, as he took the world renowned Daniels to the brink, only to fall painfully short. The sting of this defeat will not last long, as Divine will receive a Junior Heavyweight title shot on October 13th at Academy Hall.

Non-Tournament action:

The Rockin' Rebel and Da Hit Squad defeated The S.A.T. and Chi Chi Cruz in a crazy 6-man brawl that worked its way around the entire arena. The intensity levels between these factions continues to rise, as after the pinfall Rapid Fire Maldonado re-emerged to attack Rebel and Da Hit Squad. The Latino Alliance left them bruised, but not beaten, as The Rebel vowed revenge in any kind of match, at any time. Look for more brutality between these teams down the line.

Second Round Action:

The Amazing Red defeated Bax with a top-rope sunset flip powerbomb, after several minutes of grueling action. Both men showed fatigue from their earlier battles, but nonetheless gave everything they had in an effort to advance. Bax, who really shined the whole evening, will be making noise in the PWF for a long time to come, but the finals of the Cup was just not in the cards for him tonight.

"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels defeated Rapid Fire Maldonado. Maldonado more than held his own against Daniels, but he seemed to let the crowd get to him more than usual, which may have played a part in his downfall. Daniels hit the climbing enziguri, which is Maldonado's pet move, and then locked him in a submission manuever, forcing him to submit.

Non-Tournament Action:

"Gorgeous" Gino Giovanni goaded Rob Dimension into the ring for a fight, only to have Chris Hamrick, Jack Victory, and Lou E. Dangerously hit the ring, destroying the PWF President. It now appears as if Giovanni is the latest addition to Dangerously's army, which can only make them stronger and more despised. Johnny Kashmere came to Dimension's aid, and the match for the PWF Universal Heavyweight title was on, Chris Hamrick defending against Kashmere. These two went everywhere, including performing several moves on and off of the stage of the building onto the hardwood floor. In the end, Dangerously and Victory, who had been banned from ringside after the match began, hit the ring while John Finnegan was dazed from an errant kick and leveled Kashmere with a steel chair and a piledriver, followed by Confederate Currency from Hamrick. Your winner, and still champion, Chris Hamrick.

Final Round Action:

In what can only be described as a classic, Christopher Daniels defeated The Amazing Red with the Angel's Wings to become the 2002 Legacy Cup winner. After reaching last year's finals, the "Fallen Angel" finally captured the Cup, but not without a fight. Red lived up to his nickname, as he truly was amazing in defeat. After the match both men showed respect for each other, and the remaining 6 competitors, who had been at ringside the whole match, gathered in the ring for a very special photo opportunity for the media and the PWF fans.
