Quito

La Compaņia, a few blocks away from the San Francisco Plaza, is a Jesuit Church. It took 163 years to build. It is a masterpiece of baroque and Quiteņo art. The altar, the walls and the ceiling are richly covered in gold leaf, perhaps more than a ton.

This is the town of Guapulo. It is situated at the base of the plateau on which Quito is built. I remember seeing a similar picture many years ago and I definitely didn't want to miss it when I came. The church is worth a visit. It was completed in 1693.
