about us

Postcards from the Future is an interdisciplinary academic conference project that was started in May of 2000 as part of an effort to promote interest in modern fiction and culture studies within the academic community. Hosted by The Edinboro University Honors Program, the conference is scheduled for April 6th and 7th, 2001 and will feature Mr. Palahniuk as our guest and keynote speaker.

The goal of this project is to create an open, dynamic environment where students, fans, and researchers can discuss this material and its relevance to the society and literature of twenty-first century America. As such, this conference is geared towards scholars, undergraduate and graduate students interested in studying the language, style and themes of this material. The ultimate aim of this project, therefore, is to help establish an international scholarly dialogue on Mr. Palahniuk’s works and the film adaptation of Fight Club. Principle conference organization has been conducted by a panel of undergraduate and graduate students at Edinboro University. Students and scholars from all academic disciplines are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation in April.

Information on attending this conference is available on the main page of this site. Those interested in presenting research or holding a roundtable discussion are asked to read our Call for Papers.

Nietzsche once wrote, “Even the most courageous among us only rarely has the courage for that which he really knows.” In a world where critiques of popular literature and media are increasingly characterized by hysterical ramblings and poorly researched editorials, understanding the mechanics of a highly salient fiction author and the cultural climate of America in the twenty-first century is as important now as ever. The organizers of this conference invite anyone who cares deeply about literature and culture to join us in a holistic discussion of life as we know it at the dawn of the new millennium.

The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.

Break the rules.
