Documentation per letter from Joan A. Myers to H.R. Johnson dated 16 Nov 1990: Steigerwalt book 1767-1979 says wife of David Steigerwalt was Lydia Derr. Former historian, Pansy Steigerwalt, reported that this was entered by a deceased prior family historian, and the evidence, if any, is not available. In view of the following information, I entered Lydia Ziegler. German newspaper "Unabhaengiger [independent] Republikaner" of Allentown, Pa [published 1810-1915], issue of 28 Nov 1822], reports "Married David Steigerwald of W. Penn Twp. to Liddy Ziegler of W. Penn Twp. on Nov. 10 by Rev. J.J. Jager".
Benjamin Ziegler and wife Catherina were sponsers at baptism of Lydia's twins David and Daniel. Lydia Ziegler had a brother Benjamin married to Catherina.

Joseph also served as choir leader (fore singer) in the Ben Salem Church. His father and mother continued to make their home with him until their deaths.

They remained with their uncle until they were about 18 years of age.

John and Salome purchased the first house in what is now the hamlet of Jacksonville. They made additions to the house and opened a hotel and store. A Post Office was established about 1848 with Zachariah Long as Postmaster. John established another store in West Penn Twp., Schuylkill County. Tradition says this store was kept in the old log house built by J. Peter Steigerwalt.

John came to Lynn Twp in the year 1816. He became the second pastor of the Reformed Congregation at Jerusalem Lutheran and Reformed Church, Kempton,R.D.1, Pa, possibly before, but not later than 1826. Since there are no records of pastoral acts at the church by the Reformed pastors until the year 1854, there are few certain facts known prior to that time. On April 2, 1826, Rev. Zulich administered Communion to 25 members of the Reformed congregation. John's parents, John and Susanna "Wilhelmina" Zulich came to America in 1800, first to Baltimore and then to Philadelphia, where they became members of the Race Street Church. The Rev. Samuel Helffenstein was the pastor of the church. He confirmed young John, and also later gave him his theological education. On September 3, 1816, he was licensed by the Synod at New Holland, Lancaster County, and he immediately became pastor of three congregations in Lynn Twp Lehigh County, though he was not ordained intil 1819 at the Synod of Lancaster. Tradition has it that he came to this region riding the "long quid" (coupling or connecting rod) of a farm wagon, with a farmer returning from a business trip to Philadelphia. In this charge he remained to the end of his life, residing at Steinsville. In the course of his ministry he organized congregations in Berks, Schuylkill, and at Ben Salem in Carbon County. He served at various times these congregations; Jacob's Jacksonville, New Bethel (Eck), West Penn, East Penn, Allentown, New Ringgold, Wernersville, Mahanoy, Tamaqua, McKeansburg, and Jerusalem (Red Church). At the time of his death in 1875 he was serving six congregations. On January 28, 1875 Rev. Zulich preached a sermon at the funeral of one of his members, and on the morning of February 3, he was found dead in bed. He is buried in the cemetery at Jacob's (Jacksonville) Church, the church in which his first sermon as a licensed pastor was preached, and which he served for a total of 59 years.
