Frederick had a family of twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, all of whom grew to maturity. He was a farmer. When his sons were grown, Charles, the eldest, became a teamster. About that time, Frederick, built a dam across the Lizard Creek south of his home. He built a saw mill, and his second son, Reuben, became the saw miller. He made his timber into boat lumber which was hauled to Weissport. The lumber was hauled to the top of Mahoning Mountain by a team of four horses and taken the rest of the way by a team of two. A few years later he built a cider press; the builder was John Dieter Heintzelman, an expert woodworker. People who wanted cider had to make it themselves at this press and were customarily allowed two days for it. They generally cooked apple-butter at the same time, using a 32 gallon copper kettle and a "patented" ladle, a contrivance with four blades which kept the apple-butter from sticking to the bottom of the kettle and burning. The cost for using the press was 6c for a barrel of cider and 25c for the use of the kettle. The oldest son became a weaver, and as the younger sons grew up they became teamsters. The father saw to it that each one had something to do. He had a flock of sheep, using the wool for clothing and the mutton for food. He also raised flax for clothing which the women made during the winter months.
In 1841 Frederick built a stone house. The oldest daughter, Leah, married Gideon Nothstein and for a while lived in the original log house. Frederick sold a strip of 22 acres to the west of the house to his son-in-law. Later, when his son Levi was married to Mary Weiss, he built a stone house and barn on his land and sold the 87 acres of land and buildings to Levi. At the time of the Civil War, Charles, the eldest, was living in Tamaqua and was drafted into the service. Levi, the younger brother, was also drafted, but since he had a family, his younger brother Stephen took his place. In 1867 Frederick sold the remainder of the farm to Reuben and Stephen, two of his sons. Reuben was married to Priscilla Stahler and Stephen to Priscilla Houser. in 1888 Stephen sold his share of the farm to Reuben. In 1889 Reuben sold the homestead to his son, Ambrose Stahler Steigerwalt, and the remainder to his son-in-law, D. Alvin Shankweiler. Reuben had a son, Ambrose, and a daughter, Elmina, with his first wife; a son, Elvin, was born to his second wife, Fianna David. Ambrose was married to Alvesta Steigerwalt and had fourteen children - five sons, one of whom died at twelve, and nine daughters. In 1931 Andrew Steigerwalt, the oldest son of Ambrose, bought a tract of land owned by the estate of D. Alvin Shankweiler. In 1932 Ambrose Steigerwalt sold his part of the original homestead of Carl Steigerwalt to two of his sons, Thomas L. and Fred S. Steigerwalt. In time, Fred S. became the sole owner and around 1979 Stanton Steigerwalt, the son of Fred S. became the owner.

Was born Hinrich Steigerwald, but changed his name to Henry Stierwalt and moved to Ohio. He was a farmer and of the Lutheran faith. He came to the Ohio country when it was just opening up, only about 20 years after the last of the Indians had been expelled to reservations. He is listed in the 1830 Census as living in Perry County. On October 24, 1844 he acquired 40 acres in Washington Twp from Isaac Miller and his wife Elizabeth (she was a sister of Henry). According to the 1850 Census he was living on a farm in Sandusky County.
