Henry was a Missionary to Africa. Was converted in 1896 under the ministry of Bishop John Stump, and soon afterward united with the Brethren in Christ Church. The following year he was called to the ministry in his home district. At the same time he carried on a prosperous saw mill business. He began to feel the call of God to Africa immediately after the death of Bishop Jesse Engle, but, modest and unassuming, he hesitated to announce his call, but prayed that if these convictions were of the Lord someone might speak to him regarding this matter. Soon after this Henry Davidson, chairman of the Foreign Mission Board, approached him concerning service in Africa. Assured that God was leading, he disposed of his business and sailed for Africa, arriving at Matopo Mission November 16, 1901. Francis Davidson refers to their arrival as an event second to none in the history of the work, saying the missionaries agree that he was God's man for the place at that time. A man of few words, he had vision and foresight and was gifted with common sense. He was capable in practical affairs, thorough and precise in all his undertakings, and possessed of great personal dignity and a pleasing personality. He commanded the respect not only of the African, but also of the white settler and government official. In August 1924, when it seemed he should enjoy the fruit of earlier labors at Matopo, he and his wife opened a new station at Wanezi. Here he died in 1929, having given a full measure of service both as general superintendant and in the various duties of station superintendant, pastor, and evangelist.Henry married Minta Grace Pugh on 2 Apr 1893. Minta was born on 9 Nov 1871 in nearChambersburg, Franklin, Pa. She died on 12 Sep 1947. She was buried in Edensville, , Pa.
Minta was converted in 1896, she accompanied her husband to Africa in 1901. She loved Rhodesia, and gave herself to the cause of the gospel there. After her husband's death she remained at Wanezi until December, 1930, when she returned to America. In 1931 she entered the Messiah Home, and in April 1934 was married to David P. Keeporta. In a short time Mr. Keeporta became ill and passed away, but she remained at the Messiah Home until her own death in 1947.
She never lost interest in Rhodesia. She was laid to rest at Edensville, Pa., near her girlhood home.
