2001 |
|
|
Last
Friday, 9/21, we saw a huge chunk of the
entertainment community take the stage in
America: A Tribute To Heroes, a benefit to help
aid victims and survivors of the terrorist
attacks. So far, the benefit has helped raise
over $150M, and we will soon see an album
release to help make further contributions.
Continuing the efforts, Paul McCartney is
organizing The Concert For New York, which will
be staged on October 20 at Madison Square
Garden. As of now, it will also be telecast on
VH1 and simulcast on the internet.
Paul McCartney has extended an invitation to
Eminem to attend/perform the event.
Tickets will go on sale at noon on Sunday,
October 7, through Ticketmaster or the Garden
box office.
Monies raised will be directed to the Robin Hood
Relief Fund, the Twin Towers fund, and various
other relief agencies.

Oasis
Who? - 26th September 2001 |

Oasis
member Noel Gallagher voiced his opinion of
Eminem, saying he watched him during his
festival closing-set in front of 60,000 fans at
the Carling Weekend in Reading and despaired.
"I was looking at the 60,000 people who
were goin' mad thinking 'You lot don't half
deserve each other'. People set their standards
too low in their idols these days." Oasis
had headlined the festival in 2000.

MOUNT
CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -- Factory workers, truck
drivers and "club kids," here's your
chance to appear on the big screen.
Filmmakers have planned an open casting call for
Saturday and Sunday at the Detroit Academy of
Arts and Sciences for an upcoming movie about
rapper Eminem.
Casting agents are looking for hundreds of men
and women over 18 to re-create a hip-hop scene,
said Deedee Ricketts, the extras casting
director for the Universal Studios film. They
also want hip-hop "club kids" who can
dance, factory workers, trucker drivers and
"a small white girl between the ages of 5
and 8."
Curtis Hanson, who directed "L.A.
Confidential" and "Wonder Boys,"
will oversee the project.
Ricketts said some of the Detroit filming will
concentrate on the 1995 period, about four years
before Eminem's debut record, "The Slim
Shady LP," climbed the charts.
Eminem grew up in Detroit and suburban Warren.
He now lives nearby in Macomb County's Clinton
Township.
The film is expected to be released next summer.

HOLLYWOOD
-- When Eminem took the stage at the Gig on the
Green concert in Glasgow, Scotland, Saturday,
several screaming fans surged forward, injuring
45 people.
Before the Detroit singer's appearance festival
organizers asked the fans to stop surging
forward.
The show, which also featured artists such as
Marilyn Manson, The Cult, Papa Roach and Queens
of the Stone Age, had to be stopped while police
removed the injured people, who were then taken
by ambulance to two local hospitals and treated
for minor injuries. Eminem returned to the stage
30 minutes later, after being told to remain
backstage until everyone was safely removed.
In a statement, a police officer spokesman told
CNN.com, "A number of people were removed
from the crowd and after it was deemed safe
Eminem came back on stage. No one was seriously
injured; thankfully, they are all walking
wounded."
The spokesman praised the rapper and his band
for helping to quell the situation and asking
fans to stop moving forward. He said, "Eminem
and his band did all they could to help the
situation and we are grateful for his
support."
Susan McCarrol, 21, of Glasgow told the
Associated Press, "I was near the front and
it was really scary. There was this mad surge of
people and they kept moving forward. When it got
too bad we just moved out of the way and decided
to leave."
Another fan, Stuart Ward, 26, told AP that he
and his two friends also moved away because of
the surging crowds. "We all wanted to see
Eminem because it is not everyday that a star
like him comes here," he said. "But it
got just a bit too much."
The controversy didn't end there. Earlier in the
day, various religious groups protested the
concert and its two main attractions--Eminem and
especially Manson-for their ultra-violent
content in their shows. The groups handed out
leaflets to the music fans.
One group's spokeswoman, Geraldine Green, a
teacher in Glasgow, told CNN.com, "We are
all responsible for protecting our children, but
child protection goes beyond pedophilia. We
should not be allowing the exposure of young
minds to people like this."

Well

Eminem could've even thought up something iller
than 4 airplanes being hijacked, and crashed
into American buildings.
We encourage everyone to assist with the rescue
