Mildening Pain

I learned this when I had overstretched my wrist, but it can be used to easing also other kinds of pain.

The pain is a warning signal and simultaneously a way to make you concentrate your attention to the place which hurts. The pain makes it impossible to do otherthings wholeheartedly. So at least that much you must concentrate on curing the hurt part. A momentary attention isn't enough: you must pay attention to the curing constantly, and in a natural way, not from your memory.

You must pay attention to the hurt part and also to its environment: for the wrist about twenty centimeters to each direction from the wrist. You must listen to your body, to its slight messages, feelings of what is a good balanced healthy position and healthy natural way to keep the limb, and use such all the time. You must also listen to your body about what is a healthy natural way of paying attention to your body: there is such a way, you just have to learn it by listening and emphatizing with your own body. Do not use attetion like pressing the point which hurts, instead use like as if the were fog inside and just outside your body and your attention rested only on the fog (not too heave that means). The attention should be like a meditative awareness: like the sensitivity and freedom of breathing with the relaxedness of playing in warm water.

Such a good balance would be good to have always!

Headache can be cured similarly, but in it the way you use you forces and attention is very important. It is often a need for rest which is against your habits or opinions which causes the headache. MIldening pain by paying attention:
Pain is a warning signal:
one must focus more attention to the place which hurts and to its environment
so that it gets a good chance to recover

This applies to pain that is caused by wrong kind of strain,
for example wrong king of posture, lack of attention or wrong kind of muscle tension.

The place that hurts and its environment need lots of attention:
it prevents one from doing other things as much as the pain does.



NOTICING FEAR AND PAIN IN OTHERS So how would one make the difference between an animal, which feels fear in the right way, and a safe animal. First of all, if the animal succeeds in reacting to the needs of the situation, it is safe. But on the other hand, it is concentrated into meeting the needs of the situation, so its normal life is on a less emphasis - that's what you can notice: its concentration and the leanness of its normal life compared to the usual.

What about suffering: shouldn't we notice clearly when an animal or a human suffers? How can we do that if the reaction to pain and suffering is more positive than what we are used to? There is the same thing as with fear: a successful reaction to pain means successfully concentrating to curing the hurt part, so that the situation isn't as dangerous to the individual. As time passes, the hurt part will be cured. But for the mean while, there is no more need to feel the pain because the reaction has been correct, a healthy one: there is the concentration needed for curing, at the expense of normal life which has become lean and not so much well enough for the long run. The hurt one may appear weak and concentrated to curing, and that is just what has happened and what we can notice and feel compassion for.


CURING HEADACHE
One way to cure headache is to imagine a big cloud of air inside and around the head, air filled with a positive atmosphere, and to keep one's attention everywhere in the cloud. It is good if the cloud is much bigger than the head: engulfing the shoulders too and reaching high above and around the head. This trick should cure the pain. It simulates meditation = a positive non-forcing awareness everywhere. The effect may be due to following the instructions of usage of humans and due to the postive atmosphere lessening the muscle tensions on the head and shoulder area and lessening the rigidity of attention: one kind of reaches a healthier way to live. Attention is connected to the space around the body asnd so, if we examine things carefully, is also the way that we tense our muscles: we react to what happens in the social space around the body too: it is nicer to have only nice things there, that's why the positive atmophere can help.
