Ozkan Mert (b. 1944)

Born in Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. After High School, he studied Turkish literature for a while at Ankara University. He now lives in Stockholm, where he works for the Turkish Service of Swedish Radio. His collected poems appeared in 1988. Mert's poetry is socialist to the core without the excesses of total obedience. His poems rise to the skies like sturdy kites (from Modern Turkish Poetry, ed. F. K. Fergar).
