Bill Roberts
Costume
Party
My inclination is to stay here
party at home - we're dressed for it -
put the costumes to personal use.
You'll just wiggle your new snakeskin-
covered torso at everyone, pretend
you swallowed four melons whole.
I'll menace my handcuffs, black whip
and other instruments of pain on fools
who don't appreciate them like you.
But you're slipping into a second skin
so I'll toss some burlap over my hump -
you insist on going, torturing both of us.
Bill Roberts has had over a
thousand poems printed in nearly 200 online and small-press
magazines. One was nominated for a
Pushcart Prize in 2009, another for Best of the Net. He
offers a seminar on how to write a poem a day in 15 minutes, then
take it to market. A new dog, Princess Honey, has joined the
family; she hates the Colorado outdoors, pees on the rug.
