JC looked out the window of the plane as it left the ground. Leaving his home, friends, and family behind, but for what? A vacation, he had told everyone. A vacation from work, from everything familiar to him. His life had become almost too comfortable and he needed to see what else this world had to offer him.
So he took the entire summer off, the whole summer would be spent by himself in a place that nobody knew about. He hadn't told anyone where he was going, and didn't plan on it. This was his summer and he needed no interruptions. A smile graced his handsome features as he thought about what lie ahead. He had no idea what was ahead of him and that was the best part; he could virtually do anything he wanted without answering to anyone.
He had made the reservations and now, a week later, was on his way to a place he had never been. What was it about Milford that had made him chose it? He had never heard of it, just pointed to it randomly on a map and immediately decided that's where he would go. All he knew was that it was a small coastal town in Connecticut famous for its seafood.
"Excuse me, sir, would you like anything to eat or drink?" a flight attendant asked, interrupting his thoughts.
"Yes, I'll have a coke please," JC smiled gratefully at the lady. She poured his drink and handed him the glass. JC let the cool liquid run down his throat before resting his head against the seat again. Closing his eyes, he fell into a light sleep for the rest of his journey.
Three hours later he awoke to the pilots voice coming over the intercom, announcing their landing in five minutes. JC stretched and put the few items he had taken out back into his bookbag, then tightened his seat belt. The older gentleman next to him smiled, "Pretty view, ain't it?" he said pointing out the window.
JC glanced out the window looking at the crystal clear water below, "Sure is, like a picture," JC commented smiling back at the man. A few minutes later the plane landed safely and passengers began to file off. JC waited, for once in his life not in a hurry to get anywhere. After most of the people had cleared the aisles he stepped off the plane. Making his way to the baggage claim he grabbed the only other luggage he had besides the bookbag, a large suitcase carrying his cloths and other necessities. He walked lazily to the rental car counter and gave his name. After a brief look at the computer the woman glanced at him, smiling. JC filed out the forms and was handed the keys to the car he would be using for the next month.
After he was in the car he fished the map out of his bag and looked over it. "An hour drive," he said to himself, estimating the distance to Milford. Glancing at the clock he realized he would get there around eight that evening. JC decided to wait and get dinner when he got into town, and expertly navigated the car onto the highway toward his fated destination.
JC arrived exactly when he thought he would, 8 PM. He pulled the car into the parking lot of a small convenience store he had seen upon entering the town. He turned the engine off and went inside. He gave the worker the address and asked for directions. JC listened closely at the guy explained exactly how to get to the house. JC smiled and thanked him before returning to his car. Five minutes later he pulled up in front of a small house. He stood, admiring its beauty. A large porch wrapped around the entire home, making it a feature point. He thought about how he was going to sit out there for hours looking at the ocean. The paint was chipping and worn giving the house a lived in feel. JC knew immediately he would love living here for the summer. Picking up his bags he entered the house.
He was greeted by a cozy living room. A fireplace was placed on the far wall with a huge oriental rug in front of it. Two wing-tipped chairs faced a couch made from different patterns of material. The south wall was completely windows facing the magnificent ocean. Just off the living room was a small kitchen, with a tiny table and two chairs in it. Down the hall that was adjacent to the living room was a bathroom and a bedroom. The bedroom was simple yet elegant with a four poster bed made of oak. A dresser and night stand to match it. The room had the same breath taking view of the ocean as the living room had. JC smiled in satisfaction at the house.
