Our Rabbi

Rabbi Arie M. Isaacs was born and raised in Skokie, Illinois. He attended Arie Crown Hebrew Day School in Skokie and Telshe Yeshiva High School in Chicago, from which he graduated with honors in 1990.

He continued his post high school education at Hebrew Theological College (Skokie Yeshiva), where he earned a B.A. in Judaic Studies as well as Rabbinic Ordination. Rabbi Isaacs also holds a Masters Degree in Hebrew Literature from Jewish University of America (the graduate school of Hebrew Theological College) and a M.A. in Education Administration from Loyola University Chicago.

Professionally, Rabbi Isaacs served for two years as Interim Rabbi at the Persian Hebrew Congregation, a small Sephardic synagogue in Skokie. He then assumed the position of full-time instructor of Judaic studies at the Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Chicago, a post he held from 1997-2002. For the past two years, Rabbi Isaacs also served as assistant administrator at the Sachs-Skora Community Hebrew School in Chicago.

In addition to his professional work, Rabbi Isaacs has devoted much of his time to writing and lecturing. He has written sourcebooks on Jewish Thought and Oral Law, both outgrowths of classes he has taught at the Ida Crown Jewish Academy. His master's thesis, The Motivations and Satisfactions of Teachers in Jewish Education, is a thorough study of the factors that prompt people to enter the Jewish education profession and the degree to which they are satisfied with their work.

He has also written numerous articles and essays including Why Be Jewish: The Question of Our Generation and Psalm 145 and Ashrei: The Mystery Behind the Missing Nun Verse .

Rabbi Isaacs maintains membership affiliations with the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA), the National Council of Young Israel (NCYI), and the Chicago Rabbinical Council (CRC). He has extensive experience in life cycle events and understands personally what it means to cope with tragedy, as he himself lost a sister to cancer. Rabbi Isaacs is married to Rachel, nee Wolf, and they have one daughter, Shifra Leah.
