“Intergalactic planetary purveyors of hardcore new and old, the electric tribe are here to take control“

Founded by DJ's Penfold and the Dirty Little Bastard (DLB), Ectopic Beats is about bringing the hardcore sound into the Millenium. Producing new breakbeat in an old skool style.

LABEL HISTORY

The idea behind the label started as a glint in the eye of Dj Penfold one sunny morning, in the autumn of 1996 after emerging, pheonix like, from a squat rave somewhere in the bowels of the park royal industrial estate in West London. This had been intended to be his final set after a rather lacklustre career, but Fate interviened. He'd just managed to pull of a stunning coup on the dancefloor by the skin of his teeth, mixing from acid techno into old skool and then Jungle.

Normally the concept of blending such drastically different styles in one set is unthinkable (the rather annoyed organisers certainly thought so). However the crowd responded with their feet and kicked him in the gnads (accidently of course). Wether it was destiny or just plain bad luck for the rest of humanity has not been determined quite yet (although we are sure that future historians will debate furiously before failing to come to any conclusion).

Regardless of how people reacted, his delusion that the hardcore vibe was still present (if somewhat buried way deeep down) and viable in dance music was fuelled...

It was also at this time that DLB played out for the first time. Through varous mind control techniques and bribery Penfold slowly brainwashed DLB into accepting the old school religion as his own (the final straw being the threat of barbecuing an andrex puppy lookalike). And so the unholy allegience was formed.

Being a couple of lame ass stoners, neither managed to get of their backside for another 5 years...

By this time the once infantile old school hardcore revival was now in full swing. Penfold had managed to swing a residency for Raindance, helping to spearhead a fusion of the new and old school breaks and DLB had promoted the infamous VOID parties combining old skool and acid techno. A common complaint heard was that the DJ's and ravers were getting bored of the same old anthems being played over and over again. The push for new material and constant wining convinced the two to put in the effort to start up this label...
