There have been several questions on the correspondences associated with the quarters and the directions.  If you read the available books you will find that East - Air, South - Fire, West - Water, North - Earth.  There is also plenty of justification for these aspects.  Here is an article that looks at things in a slightly different way.  I'm tossing it out as just food for thought  Quarters .
