Essential Oils
Important: Although Essential Oils are a natural way to heal, some of them can also have side effects. Make sure you know what these side effects are, and what possible problems the patient may have. Some oils can be irritating to the skin such as Basil and lemongrass. Rosemary, Basil and Cedarwood along with some other oils should not be used during pregnancy. Oils such as Bergamot and Lemon can lead to photosensitisation, which means that the skin becomes more sensitive to ultra violet light.
I have decided not to include a book list on my pages as a fully comprehensive book list can be found at Kaizen's site (A link to this site is in my home page). I would, however, like to recommend a book by Patricia Davis entitled 'Aromatherapy, an A-Z'. This book contains information about oils and ailments and also has some very informative tables in the back. The most important of which are tables related to the side effects of Essential Oils. It also contains oil recipes some of which I have used on this page...Check it out!

Sandalwood is a helpful oil during meditation as it is useful for protection. Lavender and Chamomile oils also help by aiding relaxation and calm.
Insomnia
Lavender oil is very effective for combatting insomnia and has a calming effect. Lavender can also help in meditation.
You may have noticed that Lavender oil has been mentioned several times on this page. This is because Lavender is a very versatile oil, and, I believe, a must for anyone who wishes to use oils for healing purposes. Lavender has an antiseptic effect and is the only essential oil which can be used neat on the skin. This combined with it's calming effects make it useful in healing emotional and physical ailments alike.
