Mighty Final Fight? Well it sure took me by surprise. Released in 1993, this was basically Final Fight for the NES, but with different levels. The graphics are very cartoony, and the game is quite funny, mainly because there is excellent anime style animation on the characters. The story is about how Belger has captured Jessica and his gang, the Mad Gear gang, has taken over the city.
Check out part of the intro! It's some more fantastic animation from thelostdude and no doubt some strange animation shop program.
Of course this isn't as good as the arcade Final Fight game. But it is surprisingly playable, and even more surprisingly is that it is almost as good as SNES Final Fight. The level design is different than the arcade though-most levels have been changed, but the old bosses are there. There is even speech between bosses, like on the port of Final Fight for the GBA, which is impressive.
As you defeat enemies you can earn experience points. When you earn a certain amount you will level up and become stronger, allowing you more health and sometimes new limited special attacks, such as Guy and his shuriken.

The best new thing about this game is the experience point system. You get points by knocking out thugs. The more points you get can increase your level. Every time you get to the next point level, you gain more health. This is a nice new feature for the Final Fight series, but sadly, was only ever used in this game.
Welcome to Metro City:
Round 1: Slum
A fairly easy level. Most of it has you fighting among the weakest opponents in the game but at the near end of the level you'll have to fight an Andore. After beting him you'll chase after Thrasher but fall through the ceiling! However you'll find him again and have to fight him. He has a attack where he hits you with a flurry of slaps and also a strange bouncing attack which he will do three times in a row when he does it; keep out of his range then.
Round 2: Riverside
The enemies start to get slightly harder now. Poison and El Gado makes their first appearances in the game. El Gado can still hurl knives at you so try taking him out first when he comes on. There is a sought of mid boss on this level as well. At the middle of the second part of the stage a very powerful Andore will fight you, and has Poison to help him out. Anyway the true boss is Sodom (he doesn't say what his name actually is so he's probably actually called Katana since Damnd was still called Thrasher) This boss fight is actually very poorly designed since it is very hard to even hit Katana. Try jump kicks but be prepared to lose a lot of lives. It's also a very unfair fight because if Katana hits you three times with his sword you'll lose a life for sure.
Round 3: Old Town
The start of this level can be done quite quikcly. All you have to do is throw the enemies down the holes in the ground to kill them instantly. However if you fall down you will lose a life, so be careful. The second part of the level has you in a mansion type place where some enemies will surprise you be dropping own from above. The boss is Abigail, who fights you in a hidden wrestling ring. Don't try jump attacks at him as he will do an annoying uppercut. He also turns red and charges at you now and then. When he does this you can usually use jump attacks. And if the previous two attacks weren't enough he has a highly damaging grab attack. Over use of your special moves will normally neat him but like Sodom be prepared to lose a few lives.
Round 4: Factory
The start of the level is fairly simple with nothing to challenging. After defeating the Mad Gears you will come to a hole, and then a Andore will knock you down it! You will land on a lift and have more Mad Gears to fight who keep dropping in from above. You can throw them off the life to kill them instantly but you to can be knocked off, which means losing a life instantly. After the lift you will be in a underground bar, where there are some tough enemies including a very strong El Gado. The boss of this level is Katana again, who is actually nice to you!. When he offers you water, say yes to get some free health! Anyway at the start of the fight Katana fights in the same way as usual, so use the same tactics as before. However when you knock him down to around half health he will drop his swords and start using a strange charge attack over and over again. If he misses you grab him and throw him, otherwise use your special attack to hurt him.
Round 5: Bay Area
The final level is the hardest. You'll start off fighting some tough enemies in the first section, only when you get to the end of it you'll have to fight Abigail again. He fights in the same way as before so just do what you did last time to beat him. The next section has you fighting some powerful Mad Gear members, and then you will have to fight Katana for the third time! He fights in the same way as he did on the last level but doesn't offer you any water. Defeating him will let you go to the next section to fight Belger. This guy moves around really fast and is quite hard to hit. However once you damage him a tiny bit he will change tactics and start shooting at you! This is really hard since the projectiles are very difficult to avoid, try jumping over them. If you manage to beat Belger than you'll get to see the ending.
After you complete rounds 2 and 4 you will take part in a bonus stage. Both play in the same way but are on different levels. The idea is to smash all the barrels as they roll around. You can earn extra experience points and even extra lives depending on how many you destroy.
This is one game to own for the NES, it's excellent and is fun to play. It is easily on the same level as the SNES version of Final Fight. It has all of the characters, but is still missing a level. But for the NES, this is a surprisingly good game that will please Final Fight fans. Certainly better than the Master System conversions of Streets of Rage 1 and 2, even if it is only 1 player.
Have you ever thought "My life would be much more complete if I could just see sprite sheets to all 3 playable characters from Mighty Final Fight?" Well, now, thanks to Redrum, you can! Look at how good quality they are! Coolio! Nice one Redrum!
Hey, want to see the ending to Mighty Final Fight? Well now you can thanks to thelostdude and no doubt some dodgy animation program:
Cheats
Defeat Mad Gear easier
Start a combo on a thug, do about 3 hits in a combo, then turn round, then quickly turn back and start the combo again. The thug won't have had time to move. They will be defeated much more quickly.
