RIP-OFFS
Some people think that it's funny to copy other peoples successful ideas if the original idea is any good in the first place. Lots of companies do this, Street Fighter 2 was cloned hundreds of times, and even had moves copied and put into other games. What's even worse is the fact that the rip-off games sometimes do better than the originals ( EA with Simpson's Road Rage, a complete rip-off of Crazy Taxi, yet I'm sure that SRR did better because it had the Simpsons in it) Anyway Final Fight has been copied, and we are going to see what the rip-offs were like.
FINAL FIGHT GAME RIP-OFFS
1) Burning Fight (SNK, 1991)
An obvious one, this. Two of the characters look very similar to Guy and Cody and the game plays the same as Final Fight. Just look at "Duke" and "Ryu" If you see a screenshot of Duke's sprite he looks just like Cody.
2) Streets of Rage (SEGA, 1991)
SEGA needed a Final Fight style game and this was it. It came out in 1991 and was a huge success. The story was how a big gang had taken over the city, led by Mr. X (Yes, the story is the same as Final Fight's) 3 ex-police officers decided to take the gang down once and for all, which meant you had an excuse to beat people up a lot. This was seen as a better versions of SNES Final Fight- it had three playable characters, a 2 player mode, lots of levels, and some great moves. It didn't have the most amazing graphics ever but loads of enemies could come on the screen. Like Final Fight is gets quite repetitive but for a first effort it isn't that bad at all. And it also sound a lot better than Final Fight thanks to Yuzi Koshiro's great musical score.
3) Alien vs. Predator (SNES)
Not to be confused with the excellent Capcom game, this was released and was heavily criticised by the gaming press. It was a bog standard game which wasn't as good as the SNES version of Final Fight, and was only a 1 player game. The Predator had a few moves but the combat was clunky and some aliens could cause you damage by simply walking into you, which is stupid. The alien designs are also highly lacking. A very poor game.
FINAL FIGHT MOVE RIP-OFFS
1) KING OF FIGHTERS 96 AND ONWARDS UPDATES
I like SNK, but SNK have the habit of "borrowing" ideas off Capcom.. Art of Fighting anyone? Anyway this character called Yuri has an attack similar to Guy's Bushin Senpukyaku from Alpha, except hers travels further.
2) Alien vs. Predator
Press the jump and attack buttons together and you would get the predator to do the same special attack as Guy in the first Final Fight game. It might not look much here but if you play the game it is just like it. Remember the Predators doing this move in the movies?
