Karen's out and about (not oot and aboot) and leaving her mark in the world...but not literally. Karen's Adventures in FranceTwo days after I finished my final exams in the spring of 2002, I jumped on a plane to France, where I visited my good friends Jocelyn and Louis in Tours and Lyon respectively, and wandered around as a Canadian in Paris. I don't think "fun" even begins to describe what happened! Seven days of testing my OAC French skills, basking in awesome European culture, and seeing more religious edifices than you can shake a stick at. A West Coast Road TripA car full of family members, six different cities and towns, a LOT of mountains, and 10 days. An almost spur-of-the-moment decision by my father resulted in our Summer 2003 odyssey through the Canadian Rockies. The main point was to visit my Aunt Shirley, who runs a Chinese restaurant in Historic Barkerville, BC. Yeah, I'd never heard of it either until she started working there. But as luck would have it, it was a really great place. Even my brothers had fun. The Great Winter Getaway of 2004Reuniting with old friends and spending a chilly February weekend up north with dogs, horses, snow and ice? What could be better? Running after a dogsled through the woods, almost getting crushed by a horse with an itch, and freaking out on a frozen lake are just a few of the stories we'll tell for years to come about our adventure in Maynooth, just south of Algonquin Park. Medeba: Winter Getaway 2005 The tradition continues as the girls and I headed up to Medeba in West Guilford to drop Emily off after her Christmas break and to check out what she's been up to these past four months. High ropes, snowshoeing in the semi-dark, and attempting to picture our most hated enemies in the ice were on the agenda. We once again didn't have the entire complement of adventurers, but we were able to bring along a "substitute" for Kimmy. |
